Is the .243 Win Obsolete ?

As a non Southerner and as a non American, I've seen hundreds of references to grits in novels and elsewhere. But what ARE they, other than an (alleged :)) form of food?
.
Every culture that has corn has a form of corn porridge.

In the southern US, we first make the corn into “hominy” via niztamalization, to make it more digestible and nutritious, then grind it into meal.

The etymology is from the Old English “Gyrtt” meaning “coarse meal”.

The downside of grits, beyond the subjective, is that it has a rather high glycemic index. I.e., it digests quickly like white bread.

They used to be a staple in my house. With diabetes being prevalent in my family, we very rarely eat them anymore.

Take it FWIW,

And you can't tell the difference from modern architecture, and general building practices going on(post WWII),compared to .... everything represented in historic venues?

Like comparing handloading for my '23 LC Smith or 1910 Ithaca side X sides with modern shotguns?

You have to draw a "line" somewhere.

Everything I will shoot going forward will be a wildcat derivative so I never find myself in the “in” crowd wearing a flatbill hat and shooting a Creedmore and talking about how every other round ever designed is obsolete after the uber Creedmore. Maybe a 6mm Remington AI next ?

A 243? Never heard of it. Check out my tattoos. They are a symbol of my struggle thru life trying to play my xbox.

I only fire one once. Felt like about half the recoil of a .308. A friend bought a new Savage Axis .243 and wanted me to dial it in. It had never been fired before and had a cheap $75-100 scope on it. I fired 9 shots at 100 yards to get it on paper, cleaned the barrel, then went to 215 yards. The ammo was some he had had just loaded using specs from a loading manual, and not precision by any means. I was amazed at how well this shot. It was a small sampling but showed promise. I fired a 3 shot group, the next 4 were doing a couple scope adjustments, then reset and shot another 3 shot group. That's all the ammo I had with me. Two 3 shot groups well under 1/2 MOA. I was about ready to go and buy me one.

I have a factory Savage sporter .243 barrel that I re-crowned and its a hummer, shoots 5/8-3/4"! The last 700 .243 I bought...not so much, 1-1/4" but its minute of coyote...

Shrimp and Grits for breakfast, yum ,yum. Plus love the .243 "FOREVER".

Yeah.
Heard a guy from up somewhere up North came into Lizard's Thicket the other morning and ordered "a grit" with his ham n eggs.

To my Yankee friends...…. Youse guys need to cell all of yure fararms because youse may not be considered politically correct by yure naburs. Just kidding...James

Sounds like the real issue is that your old 243 is only a MOA gun, whereas a lot of new factory rifles shoot significantly better than that. 243 will be around as long as the 308 remains in circulation.

If I was being honest I would say that the .243 win is no way outdated. The only thing wrong with the .243 win is I wish I had a benchgun in the caliber. I have 3 is that enough? It is a great deer cartridge for recoil shy people. As a matter of fact it is a great caliber for anyone . I saw a little old lady on TV shooting a very large buck with a savage model 99 in .243 win and one shot dropped it like wet cement.
