243 Ackley Body Die

Just a side note, I checked my Reading Die box and it says .243 Win. Improved, 40" and my Wilson straight line seater says .243 Ackley. Both have the 40" shoulder.

I said STANDARD dies, Yes you can order CUSTOM. What I was trying to say is according to Redding, the STANDARD 243 Win improved is a 40 degree. Notice the bolded words in my post.

I don't think that means what you think that means?

Mike....since you're a dealer, perhaps you will know if Redding is back to making Custom dies. I thought I heard they were not taking orders until the production can catch up with demand of their STANDARD :) products.

I spoke to them last week about a minor repair to a 30-06 Comp neck bushing die, and they said they are swamped, and even little things will take 3 or 4 weeks.

Let me try and provide some information about the chamber in question. The barrel was chambered by Shilen. It is stamped at the action end Shilen 1:10 243 Ackley. A set of Redding Competition dies came with the barrel. A micrometer seating die and a micrometer bushing neck die and a body die labeled 243 Win. Improved. When fired the brass at the shoulder body junction measures .005 larger than the body sized brass. I set this die to barely touch the shoullder. Since I read the article on this web site I wondered if there was a difference between Ackley and Winchester improved cartridges. The fired cases easily rechamber in the rifle. Since I read Win Improved on the body die I wondered if there was a die that said Ackley. I went to the Midway site and found a die that said 243 Ackley 40 degree shoulder body die. The die arrived and was labeled 243 improved 40 degree shoulder body die. I callled Midway and the rep said that is what they sell for 243 Ackleys. The 6 mm AR shouldn't be part of the conversation. Maybe crappy brass could be. Sizing the brass just seems stickier than other sizings I do. I use enough of a good lube that it shouldn't be a problem. I guess now I should call Shilen. Still, thanks for all the input regarding my question.

I understand what you posted first time around " I think Midway has a typo on their web site or they had CUSTOM dies made for them. That is my 2 cents." there was no typo error those were custom dies and any Redding dealer can buy/stock them. you can order stock them your a dealer

I believe Redding is NOT taking any orders for Custom dies at this time......likewise with Hornady and maybe others.
