is Iosso milder than JB Bore Compound

It's time for me to go after a little bit of carbon build up in my match rifle. I have JB on hand and have used it frequently in hunting rifles. I've never used Iosso and would have to order it. I was wondering if Iosso is possibly a little milder. This Bartlein barrel that I have is the closest thing to a hummer that I've ever owned and don't want to take any chances on fouling it up. Should I use JB or order Iosso?

I find Iosso to be a bit more aggressive than JB. They both work well when used in moderation.

There is two types of JB cleaning compound. The JB Bore Bright stuff with the red lettering is far more aggressive than the JB with the blue lettering.

The JB with blue lettering seems to be very mild.

I didn't really think it would work as well as it does.
But, bore tech c4 carbon remover with a nylon brush actually worked as well as IOSSO and JB for me anyway. Checked with my Hawkeye. It did take a couple more brushing sessions to get it. I was worried about the pastes when I decided to give the c4 a shot. Let it soak some

Clarification, I don't let the carbon get out of control. If it was really bad and thick it would probably still have to be one of the pastes

There is a communication issue. Posters and solvent manufacturers often refer to simple powder fouling as "carbon" which is then taken to include so called "hard carbon". While one may come from the other, they are really quite distinct problems, and to my knowledge no liquid cleaner will remove the hard variety. Powder fouling is relatively easy to remove with commons solvents that have been around for a long time, as long as one avoids the senseless aversion to bronze bore brushes that seems to have infected otherwise sensible shooters ;-) I can think of no reason to use a brush that is less effective.

I bought Iosso at Wal Mart. I was told that Iosso has stuff in to work on loosening the carbon. I have used it on my match guns and the bore scope reveals that it quickly removed the carbon. I was also told it has no abrasives in like JB or REM clean. Matt

Don't you believe it. I had that conversation a long time ago with the manufacturer. It is abrasive, but I know that when people think of abrasives they think of things that have much larger particle size, so they want to avoid the term (my words not theirs). It is a great product, but its primary action is from particles cutting, and you need to respect that and be very careful with any the similar products. I use them, when I need them, and when I do, they can do things that nothing else can do. but you need to respect their potential. Just rub some between your finger and thumb.

Pay attention to what Boyd says. IOSSO will definitely cut...carbon And steel. Use it very sparingly.

I had a melonited barrel which had aluminum streaks on it left from my v-block barrel vise. Tried everything in my reloading room chemistry set, including 4x steel wool, to remove the marks. No luck.

But when I put some IOSSO on the steel wool and rubbed the marks, they quickly disappeared. Later, under reflected light, I noticed that the area I had rubbed was actually polished...this on a matte finish barrel so hard a steel file would not scratch it.

And, on another barrel I found out the hard way that my too-aggressive use of IOSSO for a few minutes eroded the throat faster that a year's worth of shooting.
