Called and talked to CH4D Wednesday. They're open. My dies have another 9 months. The wait continues.

Is there something special about the dies, and/or how they’re made, that makes it worth waiting that long?

No other manufacturers currently are making form, trim, crimp, or reloading set for this cartridge. CH4D will make a set that breaks down the forming process in more than 2 steps.
I have form and trim die that I bought almost 30 years ago. This was the first experience in forming brass back then and I broke 2 presses and gave up on the project.
I've since then have started forming and learned a lot from 17 Fireball and 20 Vartarg.
With this experience I wanted to revisit this project from the past. I don't have a firearm for the cartridge so it was no big deal to have shelved this back then. But now I just would like to complete what I had started then

I did a little research. He passed away this year, at the age of 83.

They (CH4D) have never been prompt. When I dealt with them 20 years ago it was promises made but not delivered. There are better options for custom dies.

Lee has made me factory crimp die for .20 Vartrag.

So they were 9 months out over a year ago and they are still out another 7/8 months?! You have the patience of Jobe!
