Is a .200 thou reticle to big? Schmitt & Bender

Ok guys my buddy has his heart set on a S&B 12x50X56 scope. The only one available in the US has the sport reticle wth a dot subtension of .200 hou at 100. He ordered the scope per my suggestion after I talked to the fella at optics store, he informed me that this was the reticle to use. S&B offers a sport fine reticle wich has a subtension of .080 @ 100 that would seem to be a better choice for competitve shooting.

What do you guys think ?

The sport dot will almost cover the half MOA V bull at 1000 yards, it's usable but a long way from being perfect. I know I had one and had changed to the sport fine, my advice would be wait until you can get the sport fine.

I had found this scope at SWFA as the Field Target scope some time back. It's a 12.5-50X56 design in a 30mm titanium tube. SWFA says it has a Mildot reticle. I tried to find more specs on this model at the Schmidt Bender website but it's not listed.

The places where I can find info on this scope say that it's an Airgun scope:

What is the story on this scope?
