Is 6GT worth the "upgrade" from 6BR?

Want to build a new rifle on a TL3 action, mostly for steel shooting out to 1k yards. I currently have some 6BR reloading supplies (dies, bushings, and some other things.) If I were starting from scratch I think I would favor the 6GT since I can hit a higher velocity, use H4350 powder (I have a lot), and maybe it feeds more reliably. Seems like the GT should get me an extra 100 to 200 FPS faster than the BR. Thoughts?

im running a 6gt, its currently doing 2950 with 34gr varget, 108bt, cci450, in alpha brass in a 24" m24 profile

it holds 1/2 moa out to 600yds so far. feeds well from an aw mag using an arc cdg action

The GT will definitely feed better in a repeater. I have a couple of them now and I'm happy with them, overall. I'm actually moving my son's XC over to a GT too.

I'm using DTACs at 2840'ish or 107 SMKs at 2945.

Lots of overlap. It's almost gotten a bit silly. Or it's great. Depends on how one sees it. More choices.

A 6xc can do the same work while coasting and was designed to feed from a mag. Tubb has 6xc brass on sale for $59.

I've had a few people get the 6gt. Seems to shoot fine. I'm not sure it's the wild fire of awesomeness that the buzz would indicate. But it works. These things seem to go in waves of internet buzz.

Do I think a 6gt will outshoot a Dasher or 6bra? No. But I'll wait and see.

38.1 grains of H4350 and have11 firings with GAP brass and primer pockets are still tight.

My 6xc shoots that same velocity with 34 grains of AR COMP.

It takes 39.5 of R16 to hit that same node.

So like I said before there seems to be a lot of overlap

And my Wilson barrels are 26 in Long

Why not shoot the 115 DTAC as it was designed for the 6XC? I have a metric shit ton of H4350 and prefer the case being mostly filled. 34.0 grains in a 6XC case leaves a lot of room.

I think case fill is way over rated. Performance is what matters.

I shoot the Barnes 112 also. Just because the 6xc was designed for the Dtac, doesn't mean it doesn't perform with lots of other bullets.

I have three freebores for 6xc. It does a lot more than shoot 115s. We are testing varmint bullets now.

The true question is how well can you shoot your discipline. If your a benchrest shooter with capabilities like Jack Neary you should shoot what the top shooter do. Same if you want to shoot f class like the top shooters. There's a reason for the caliber and setup. Now if your like myself and shoot 1/2 moa out to 600 and 3/4 at 1k on the best days. the 6gt is for you. I have a home built axis with a criterion 28'' barrel with a Jard trigger. Home built chassis that shoots 105 and 108 bergers with 33 to 34.5 gr of varget to the above standards. All loads exceed 2900fps which will buck the wind better. George and Tom made this with the KISS method in mind. MY2CENTS
