Iosso is it safe to use

I have carefully and judicially used IOSSO for decades, and I have never seen any problem., BUT I have procedures that I follow when using any abrasive. As Bart said, the main thing is to make sure that you have all of it out before shooting the rifle. Recently Bullet Central has collaborated with IOSSO to produce two new products, Thorroclean, an liquid version of IOSSO, and Thorroflush, a product designed to do a superior job of removing Thorroclean. I have tested both, and I won't be buying any more regular IOSSO. I like both. My procedure for using the Thorroclean seems to work very well. Combined they are the most efficient method that I have for doing abrasive cleaning, which I only do on an as needed basis. My regular cleaning procedure involves Butch's, patches and a tight fitting bronze brush which I do not remove after it clears the muzzle, but I am careful about how far I have it clear, and how I pull it back in. Two other things that relate to this are using a bore guide that has a bushing that stays on the rod, that plugs into the back of the rod guide, and keeping the rod straight at all times. I have seen a lot of cheap rod guides and lousy rod technique.

If you look into it I believe that the abrasive that it contains is harder than some of the others. Many years back I toured a barrel maker's shop, and as I was walking out I looked over at the finish lapping area and saw several bottles of Witch's Brew, that seemed to be part of their finish lapping process.

There is a lot of information in this thread that was confirmed with manufacturers.

thank you, very informative thread

Would you mind explaining what you do to get all the IOSSO or JB out?
This after you have applied/cleaned the barrel with JB or ISSO.

Use a clean brush, squirt C4 or Seafoam on the brush. Brush the barrel say 5 times (all the way through and back counts as 1 stroke)! Then run clean dry patches through, If you continue after 4 to 5 patches to get black streaks. Repeat the above.

I've used JB, & Iosso for years, and clean after using...to help clean the bore faster, easier, and more complete...especially in the throat area...it seems to work for me, and have checked it with a borescope to see...no damage seems to have happened over those years...more of an opinion than a scientific analysis... and I just finished using it... again, and probably will continue into the future, unless something better comes along.

I bought some Witches Brew about four years ago. It isn't something I use often (bottle still 3/4 full) but if a barrel gets extremely coppered or heavy carbon build up it works. I scrubbed a well worn Bartlien 6MM barrel chamber red in 6 Creedmoor with it when accuracy started to sour. My thought was that I couldn't hurt it but a chance to experiment. There was a lot of fire cracking and heavy build up that regular cleaning just wouldn't take out. First trip out after was rewarded with the highest score the rifle ever gave.
Not sure how long that will hold out but we'll see.
