Interesting post on the nylon brushes. I have worked with plastics for over 25 years. Often times nylon is impregnated with glass (think polymer pistol frames) as well as minerals such as talc. When molded/extruded the surface finish has a skin that is smooth but after some wear the fillers are exposed. I make no claims that is what is happening but plastic isn't going to score steel without some kind of abrasive.

I like using any abrasive type cleaner on felt pellets as PatMiles and divingin state above. Also as divining states you can't go by color. With any bore cleaner that contains an abrasive the patches will always come out black as they remove metal if there is no carbon there.
