Iosso - How do you use it??

I have a barrel that has been abused and it is caked with carbon. I have decided to give Iosso a try. What is YOUR preferred method to use this product? I do have a bore scope.

Thanks,
450AK

I have a few:
One: Wrap a patch with Iosso on it around a well worn brush and short stroke through the barrel. Put new patch on after 10 short stroke cycles.
Two: Fold an edge over on a patch that has Iosso and, then, wrap the patch around a parker hale jab. The idea is to get the folded over part tight fitting in the barrel.
Three: Wrap bronze wool around a well worn brush, put Iosso on the wool and brush. Short stroke through the barrel. The bronze wool seems to increase effectiveness.
Four: No Iosso. Wrap bronze wool around a well worn brush. Apply FreeAll to the wool/brush. Short stroke through the barrel for just a few minutes. Dry/wet patch until patch is grey. Repeat until the first patch that comes out isn't real black. Do it one more time, let it sit for a couple hours. Repeat until your happy with the way the bore looks.

At this point, I'm favoring Two and Four - but need more trials.

Put it on a patch/brush and
Go to stroking. When it gets muddy a couple of chem'd patches. Then do it again.
Over and over and over and over till you're satisfied or your arm falls off.

Sounds like this could go dirty !
(Or till you go blind !)

Jelinko's number 2 is the best i have found. I use a stop on my rod so the jag never exits the muzzle. You aren't pushing the crud out the bore you are absorbing it in and on the patch. The move that ruins the crown is to let the jag exit the barrel and pull it back and let the metal end of the rod and the back end of the jag crash the crown on reentry. The stop can be a piece of plastic tubing or pvc in front of the handle.

I use their brushes and their instructions. It seems to me they know what they are doing.
Rick300 I don't have any yet, therefore I don't have the instructions but if you want to add them to this tread that would be helpful. If they recommend they use of their bushes with the Iosso that would be nice to know before I order just the paste.

I have used it with both their brushes and bronze brushes. Both do the job. Also, you should check out ThorroClean at Bullet Central. Amazing stuff and it's also made by Iosso.

Along the lines of other things that work, I've tried KG-2 - seems like a gray version of an Iosso thin paste.

Odd, I thought I had bought some Chameleon, but not finding it. Gonna give it a try. Ah, and Flitz Bore Cleaner.

That said, I'm not finding a lot of difference in the effectiveness of the cleaners themselves. I think it's important to have them applied so that the material is being used as close to the corners of the groove/lands as possible.

ETA: And to have a bore scope to see what the results are.

Before using Iosso, spray Free All liberally into the barrel and make 10 strokes with the wire brush to break the surface of the carbon, then let it work overnight. Then brush well, and patch out a glob of crud to reduce the work required by the Iosso. Use Free All to lube the Iosso patch over a worn brush. Finally patch clean with lighter fluid which will leave slight lubrication, but minimal effect on the first shot.

Basically just like the instructions say to do. Another good barrel mild abrasive is JB.

Try the Rem 40x, works good, easier to apply to the patch, whether you wrap a patch around a worn bronze brush or just on a tight fitting patch on a jag. Short stroke it like the others. (flame suit is now properly secured).

I use a largish patch on a Parker-Hale jag, or 2 or 3 VFG felt pellets. Impregnate the surface with Iosso, and short-stroke it up the barrel.

BTW, don't use color as a means of seeing if it's taking anything out - it will come out black no matter what it's getting out.

I like using any abrasive type cleaner on felt pellets as PatMiles and divingin state above. Also as divining states you can't go by color. With any bore cleaner that contains an abrasive the patches will always come out black as they remove metal if there is no carbon there.

I hit the Post button too soon.
With a really dirty barrel In between using an abrasive cleaner on felt pellets I patch out the residual abrasive then I use a somewhat oversized bronze brush soaked with a high detergent synthetic motor oil such as Mobil 1 or Rotella. The lubricating properties of the oil allow the tight brush to move more freely and the detergents and dispersants help attack the carbon deposits. After letting the oil soak for a while I patch it out and repeat the process. Let the borescope tell you when the bore is clean enough.
