Intrigued by the .510 Whisper- Who's built one?

I'm not a wildcatter, but I'm seriously interested in building one of these. Far as I can tell, there's nothing out there that's even close to being able to deliver the energy this can at 500 yards with subsonic MV. Seems like a fun project for a hunting rifle as well as for effective suppressed self-defense at range.

Not sure where to start.
Not listed on Mason's site, but I'm sure they've got the print for the SSK chamber, and CH can make the dies for a price more reasonable than I expected. I can't seem to find specifics on the brass- other than cutting and turning down .338 LM to form the neck.

How big a pain in the ass is this one?

Just get yourself a Ruger #1 action or Winchester Hi-wall (or Browning) and build a 50 Alaskan. Close to the 510 whisper. Or a 1874 Sharps (or clone) and build a 50-70. :)

I would imagine forming brass for the 510 whisper might be a bit of a pain. Starline makes 50 AK brass IIRC

Myself and a couple of other friends built 458 Socom’s and shot the 570gr Lehigh. Extremely lethal!!! Standard dies and starline brass. Uses a .473 boltface also. Truly the easy button

Rob -

Howdy !

You can do a Google search, looking for “ .510 Whisper print image “.
I tried that,, and the first pic shown was the reamer print from Pacific Tool & Gage.
You could also call Pacific, and talk to Dave Kiff 541-826-5808.

Also… take a look @ the “ 4D Reamer Rentals “ website.
Click the wildcats button, then click the 50/500 button. They show some specs for .510 Whisper; there.

I would think it’s an SSK proprietary wildcat, so they also could provide you with any details you need ?

With regards,

Hope you eventually receive a pertinent answer to your question.

Might try 12.7x48 it the generic version of the 519 whisper. I did my own version based on the 338 Norma case. I cut them down and form the shoulder as opposed to turning it into the brass

Someone also took the 50 Beowulf and took some of the taper off the case to where it would utilize .510 jacketed bullets.

.510 jacketed bullets work fine in the 50-70 and the 50 Alaskan.

Looks like you get to be the first. I see that thing slings 720 to 950gr bullets. I did see that SSK lists brass, but it's out of stock. Since you got me curious I did some searching. Grokipedia had a good bit of information with websites listed for vetting.
