Internet Service Provider Recommendations?

We live in unincorporated county and Starlink is a blessing for us dirt folks. Even with CO winters it has been very reliable and now with the mini you can take it on the road.

Seriously guys .... one man's of "this works great" doesn't mean squat if you aren't in his area.

At my work, we have just shy of 1000 remote sites. They're all broadband attached. We deal with service calls for all of them .... issues are regional, and sometimes it's down to your street/neighborhood.

The rijndael post above is smart -- things will vary dramatically by region.

However, just because a service isn't commonly used in your area, doesn't mean it may not be available. AT&T brought Fiber Optic to my house, and didn't charge one penny for the install. They had to string about 500 feet of optic fiber cable overhead, and they also provided all the in-house equipment. They had three guys working about 2 hours to finish the job -- with zero install charge.

Depending where towers are at, I have the T-Mobile gateway
at $55 a month. Could'nt be happier after almost 2 years now.
It's an unlimited data stream. I'll never have cable or fiber again.
Check out T-Mobile's DEI Policy. You might change your mind pretty quickly! I would have posted a link, but I'm on my phone and don't care to go through that headache.

I've had that T-Mobile 5G modem Home Internet service for about 4 years now and has worked great for me (especially since I'm only just a few blocks from a cell tower). I get unlimited data at 600-700 Mbps regularly and have never had a down time since I've had it. $55 cut my internet access cost down by over half and no slow down issues do to bandwidth during busy times.

It's maybe fine if your rural with no other viable service, but dang;
Musk is a little proud of his product !! In my area Starlink wants
$120 just to start and up to only 220 mps. Most other services
will double the speed for 1/2 the cost, but then again, if you have
no other options, and Musk knows that in his pricing......
Yeah, it's not cheap...but it works. I agree with @cousinguido, much easier to justify after you have it...LOL

FWIW, I have 2 properties. On in West San Jose where I live, and Lake County where I'm building to retire. I have Starlink in Lake County. In West San Jose, I tried T-Mobile, and during the rain it just sucks. I sent it back and still have my DSL. T-Mobile also told me if I got a business account, they could provide me with static IPs. In the end it was like dealing with the 3 stooges of Computer IT. The people don't even understand the basic concepts of IPs, DNSs, bandwidth, et al...I don't need static IPs, but currently run 2 domains on my DSL, for mail and web servers.

Prior to my Mom passing away, she had Spectrum fiber in Thousand Oaks, CA. It was blazingly fast, I used to upload a Linux Live Install image (DVD size, up to 7gig) in about 30 minutes. At my home it takes me about 13 hours to upload. It was great working at her house back then...my work was happy about it.

She used to pay about $100/mo for it though, so it wasn't that much cheaper than Starlink. Ultimately, for any professional types needing connectivity, Starlink is hard to beat. Too bad I don't have that job anymore...

My average is normally hanging around 300 mps during the day.
Sometimes if I'm up in the middle of the night, it will be about 500
mps. A water tower up on the hill about a 1/4 mile away just had
gear mounted to it, and a main street just below me, just had repeaters
installed on the poles. The water tower is direct line of sight to me, and
one of the repeaters is in the opposite direction, but facing me up the
street. May have to move the unit around in the future for a speed check.
But as it is, 300 mps is faster than I actually need. I no longer use my
systems for business, just basically entertainment, and e-mail......
