Ingenuity Precision powder trickler

You can get +\- 0.01 pretty easily using the IP Trickler when controlled by either the AT V4 app or the IP Controller (box on left in pics). For example just reject the + 0.02 throws (dump a kernel from the IP cup, it’s fast), keeping the -0.02 and zero throws.

As for why upgrade to IP vs use AT V4, I think most folks like the IP trickler better, and the IP Controller is a plus IMO, a better algorithm and faster throw times. So quite a few folks are running a hybrid setup. And lots of other folks perfectly happy running straight AT V4. Both are outstanding.
Not necessarily. If you have an FX-120 then its resolution is +/- .02 grains. If you accept the target weight of .00 and -.02 that actually gives you a spread of .06

Your correct its a larger number. I’m thinking that 32.00 on the Fx120i (which reads to nearest 0.02) means the actual weight is something like 31.991 to 32.009. And 31.98 could be as low as 31.971. So when accepting either .00 or -0.02, the true mass of a throw ranges from 31.971 to 32.009 or about 0.04, or +\- 1 kernel of Varget. Not bad.

Thanks for all the input. I did locate a V3 on another site, but I'd still like a second as back-up. I plan on running it with my IP trickler. I'm more about consistency at a reasonable speed than just speed. I do try to load to .00, not +-.02 for competition, practice is ok +.02. Just my ADD. Any idea where to find a thick, clear top for the V3 w/a FX120i?

I purchased the IP system minus the thrower in August of last year to work with my V3. Everything worked fine until the motor on the Trickler froze up. Paul sent me a new motor and that’s when my issues with this system began. We spent the better part of a day going back and forth on the phone trying to figure out why. The Trickler kept throwing .05 over the designated weight. Paul finally said send the controller and all cords back to him and he would replace them. He called about a week later and said that I had forgotten to send the power cord for the controller. He said he ran the system with a new power cord and it worked perfectly every time so he was sending it back with the new cord. I received the controller and new power cord and set everything back up. Still throwing 0.05 over every time.
I ordered a V4 yesterday and don’t intend to use the IP as it has been frustrating to deal with and the developer can be a bit too sarcastic for this 76 year old man. I too was on the list from 12/2023 waiting for the “whole” system to be produced. I think there are better options with less hassle out there. JMTCW
Wes,
I apologize for both our frustrations dealing with the problem. It can be taxing to do over the phone when you can't see what's going on but sending me the unit back proved there was nothing wrong with the equipment on our end. I tried to call you after not getting a response from our last email to try to evaluate things further. You already mentioned that you had sent this scale in to be repaired once before. I think there is still something wrong there. It is the only thing different in the equation from you sending everything back for me to test here. I know you say that it works fine with your old set up but you have to understand that the two systems use the speed from the scale entirely differently to operate properly.
I do not wish for you to be sore over anything so lets keep our email communication going so we can work out a solution for you even if it means I loose a sale. Paul

Have you tried, or are you aware of, the Printed Precision Trickler? https://printedprecision.com/
Mine just works.
Yes, I went down a little bit of a rabbit-hole researching that system. Looks a tad “not-quite-ready-for-primetime” to me. I imagine the PP trickler as something MacGyver would come up with on an episode where he just HAD to dispense gunpowder but all he had was some cheap plastic disks, a few popsicle sticks and a mixed box of random Legos.
