Info on 6x47 Remington ?

Just an fyi. I completely realize the 6 ppc took over for a reason. I was not knocking them at all. It certainly has proven itself over and over. But when I go to a car show I personally get bored of 4 rows of 69 Camaros. They are certainly awesome. I was just thinking of going down a different road. I still like my pops 1954 .222 Remington. It was the king of the early days of benchrest I was told.
Thank you again for all the interesting information
Much appreciated
I completely understand....it's like Top Fuel dragster & Funny Cars..if you don't run a Hemi, you might as well stay home. The Hemi ruled NASCAR until it was banned. I think I'm kinda like you....I like to do things my way.
It is kinda cool to run the underdog and succeed even occasionally. In the Benchrest sport,if you'll notice, most of the wins are by the usual top shooters especially at the national level of competition and they deserve it. I'm not financially or physically able to compete anymore, but my brother and I really enjoy our 6PPC's at the local range. I sincerely wish you well and would like to see you post your results....take care.

When I first got involved with BR shooting, the 6x47 was the preferred cartridge of the day. The PPC had just come out and the first year I was shooting my factory 6x47 no one in Canada was shooting a PPC yet. By 1978 there were a lot of PPC's showing up. In '77, a fellow by the name of Bob Forslund showed up with the first 6PPC, which had built over the winter. Before the match started, he showed me the rifle (built on a Shilen DGA action), then sat down and fired a pretty nice group (about a .150) with it. I was impressed. I ordered my reamers for both the 6 and 22 the next week. Nonetheless, my 6x47 shot so well that I shot it all through '78 and '79. Like I said, the rifle was hot and I was a fair shot at the time, so I won most matches I shot it in. It wasn't until 1980 that I switched over to the 6PPC for good. I built a 6x47 for my Dad, in '79 and it was a very good shooter as well. Dad had a personality trait though (a stubborn refusal to do anything I said), which limited his success with it.
I also shot a 6x45 (223 necked up) with some success. It had the same problem as the 6x47. About the time you got to where it was really starting to shoot, the primer pockets would loosen. In addition, like the 6x47, it was kind of fussy. My first PPC would shoot nice round groups of .2 or less with four different powders. It was almost like cheating. I still shot the old 6x alongside the PPC, and it still shot well enough to make a win possible, but I shot better with the PPC every time out.
If I was building a rifle today, and wanted to avoid the PPC out of sheer obstinance (the only good reason), I would probably shoot a 6BR or a 30 BR. I am pretty stubborn, so I do shoot a 6BR. WH

A guy at my local range gave me the privilege to shoot his very new Kelby .30BR
It was just silly accurate with my crappy vision. Another gentleman is sighting in a new .22PPC. It was a pretty weekend.
Thanks again for everyone’s time.

Howdy !

My best friend shot his .222 Mag ( M700 27.5” SS barrel ) late yesterday afternoon,
getting ready for this year’s anti-groundhog effort.

He is using H322, FED SR primers, under Hornady 55SX; in Remington brass.
The barrel originated out of the Remington Custom Shop, and appears to be set-up for a
“ fitted neck “. He got 3 to touch, before things opened up. More range work pending.

With regards,
357Mag
