I'm scared to death to ask this question

I can hear the groans now and I know I'm going to get reprimanded but I have another question on moly bullets. I'm not trying to 'kick a dead' horse or open any cans of worms.

In a fit of madness, I purchased a box,250) moly coated bullets to 'try out' along with the other 1000 or so assorted naked bullets to start developing a load for a new expensive rifle. Was this a big mistake? Do I have to clean, down to bare metal) before I shoot the moly's or can I mix them by groups of say 5 or 10 at a time with the naked's? Does shooting the moly's without pre-treating the barrel cause any harm? I'm especially concerned with switching back and forth.

OK, ...........I'm ready, strapped in my seat) Enlighten me on going over to the dark side !

In my experience switching back and forth is counter productive. Use either moly or naked exclusively.

My personal opinion is not to use moly in a match grade barrel. They are fine for factory barrels but I will not shoot them in a match grade barrel. Opinions are like a--holes; everyone has one.

I appreciate your opinions. Does it do any harm to the barrel to switch? Or does it just cancel out any effects Miss Moly might have?

As long as your cleaning regimen is correct, you will do no harm. Problems can arise when you have a layer of moly followed with a layer of copper, etc. If you are going to switch in the same barrel just make certain that you have removed all of the copper or all of the moly before switching. If this is a brand new barrel, I would personally 'season' or break it in properly with naked bullets before switching to moly.

I have heard a lot about gun balance and how it controls the effects of of vertical spread. Anyone out there familiar with setting up the process? Do you use one scale at the forend and one at the butt? Do you center the rifle so it balances directly at the trigger? just questions that keep me up at night. Any feed back would be great.

Thanks, Joe

What kind of rifle? Is there a weight limit? How do you shoot it,hold it, free recoil)? What is it rested on? Are you currently having a problem?
