Last week Thursday I agreed to purchase a gun related item on one of the for sale boards. I asked, do you want Postal money order or PayPal. He says PayPal and send me his info. I send him the funds the same day. I hadn't heard from him since last Thursday. So I sent him a PM yesterday and he responds today that he hasn't received any money. I take a screen shot of my PayPal account and send it to him. He missed spelled his email and the money went to someone else. Now I copied and pasted the email just like he sent it to me. I contacted PayPal and being its friends and family and a gun related item they said it out of there hands. It is there policy that firearms and anything related to them can't be bought using PayPal.

He says hes not going to argue with me, said yes it was his mistake ( I have all this in PM 's from him ). He is not out anything I'm out 298.71 and I did nothing wrong and says he is going to keep the product. That it is no longer for sale.

What can a person do??

Put his name in public. I always make the other party spell out what addresses etc. they give me twice , and I spell out what they give me.The difference between st and ave almost cost me a barrel one time.

You might want to send the person you sent the money to an email and explain things. You do have his email address since you used it to send him the money. I would out the guy you bought the item from. Further contact the Forum Boss. He will most likely contact him and try to intercede on your behalf. Contact the Boss first before you out him. Might make it easier to deal with.

It would be very easy (dishonest though) to set up two e-mail accounts, with slightly different spellings. Link one to PayPal for transactions, use the other for ‘bait’ such as you’ve encountered.

The e-mail ‘host server’ info is in the message headers, the hosting company can tell what IP address both accounts are tied to.

Is there anything in the seller’s profile page that might lead you to where they’re located? Be hard to prove the scenario I outlined above unless it’s something being done often and repeatedly, then law enforcement might be interested.

I had a similar incident. Someone bought a S&W presentation case from me and used PayPal for payment. I send him my PayPal ID but he misspelled it when he processed the payment. He contacted PayPal and they told him they would do nothing. This was not a firearm's purchase; just a wooden box. I accept PayPal for anything I sell but ALWAYS make certain that my userid is correctly spelled when I forward it to the purchaser. PayPal is very unsympathetic, and in my opinion needlessly so. On the other hand, I suspect the recipient who was wrongfully enriched will have to answer for it at some point down the road. Lesson learned.

Being its gun related PayPal told me its against there policy to use them for and firearms or related sales. They will not do anything.

I have sent emails to the address and have not gotten zero feedback.

Has someone claim the funds from the wrong PayPal address email? You use Family and Friends?? I can't believe a "Friend" would do this to you:eek:. Using F&F saves you from paying transaction fees, so PayPal doesn't have a dog in the fight.
I would try to track down the receiver of the mis-gotten funds and try to get them to send the funds back to you. If no one claims the funds after a time period, PayPal will refund the money back to you.

I had a person buy a scope from me via Paypal. I told him * exactly* what it was. He received it in good working order but decided he didn't like it. So he ships it back to me and gets Paypal to take the money back Away from me.

#people #smh

Never mention that AYTHING has to do with guns,, everything I've ever sent/received thru PP is " fishing lures" ,,
Sorry to hear about your bad luck, I've completed probably hundreds of PP F/F transactions on here without incident.

Even if the sender used a VPN and different location for each email?
