If You were going to build a Hotrod, What Caliber would it be

I have a Remington 700 long action. And looking to build a speed demon. What would you build?

I like shooting light bullets so will not go with a fast twist barrel.

I have these calibers already

22-250
22-250 AI
220 Swift
22-6MM AI
6 MM
6 MM AI
260 Rem
260 Rem AI
6.5 X 284
They all do the same thing.

if i were him i would put every rifle load i have on a spreadsheet.
pick a max yardage i was going to shoot a coyote.
then compare: "wind drift", "energy" and "bullet drops" of all the current rounds.
based off what hes got already, i would say the new round would have to beat everything in 2 of those 3 categories in order to call it a true Hot-Rod(at least to him)

probably going to take a .500bc+ bullet traveling 3400+fps
maybe a 28 nosler, 7prc, 7-300prc, 7rum with a high speed berger 140gr VLD?
maybe a 6.5saum pushing a 130gr 3400fps-- assuming saum will out run the 6.5x284
*all magnum bolt heads

heck this thread is 7 months old. he probably has something in the works already.

It would be just for Coyotes.

I've had most of the cartridges you listed and for me out of those the 6mm AI was the best, 80 grn. Berger and heavy doses of H-4831 with a 1-10 twist barrel was not only accurate, but devastating out to 600 yards on ground hogs. It also gave decent barrel life with its long neck over the shorter necked 6-284.

But if you want the ultimate long range, with bullets capable of the accuracy and bullets capable of doing the damage at longer range,,,,, don't overlook the 257 Roberts AI!

my most devastating varmint rifle of my 70 year wildcatting career. 1-10 twist, 85 BT's, H-4831 & IMR-7828. .250 moa accuracy at 3550 fps, and still open up ground hogs beyond 700 yards, they explode out to 500 yards.

But both for me would require 8x57 Lapua brass to be worth loading for them. The other brass when pushed hard won't take my loads for more than 2 or 3 loadings, and some the primer pockets five up the ship with one firing, with weak tension on primers.

I made the mistake trying to outdo the the 257
Bob AI with my last 6mm AI! I made the mistake using a 1-8 twist barrel. You just can't spin bullets that many rpms when exceeding 3100 to 3200 fps. 108s open up the group beyond 3100, lighter bullets give up accuracy around 3300 with that twist. And 80's and lighter accuracy is worthless beyond a few hundred yards at 3500 to 3600 fps. Lesson I learned, why settle for that when a standard 6mm is better, or a 243 using less powder will do the same thing?

Me and my brother are currently in the process of getting a couple 22-6PRCs built with Zack at Old Dominion. Calling rifles built on Defiance Anti Xs, he just sent the reamer print in, should be fun.

Out if your list it would the 260 improved for me If your shooting out last 500 or so, if you like light bullets you may be keeping it under 500.
