You stated total rookie, put togather something like a 260 rem, good barrel life and won't break the bank or beat you up. If you want more power look into a 7 mm WSM or 7mm Rem Mag.
Bigger isn't better in some cases. Managing recoil is important. Reading wind and weather conditions and knowing how to compensate is more important, and that takes trigger time.
