Retired Gunsmith, Retired LEO
I'm a retired gunsmith and in my time have tried just about every bore cleaner made.
There is a cleaner that has been out for a little while, has not got a lot of advertisement that is by far the best I've ever used.
It's Called Gunzilla CLP. It's non toxic, so it has nothing that will hurt you in it, something that's important when you think just how toxic many cleaners are.
When I was first told about it, I laughed. The guy gave me a bottle to try and I'm so sold on this cleaner that I've got rid of just about every other cleaner I have.
I run one dry patch down the bore to get the crud out, then one patch with Gunzilla, let it sit 5 or ten minutes, then 2 to 3 dry patches and my bore is clean. This is after about 100 22 RF shots. It seems to work it's way under the lead, much like Kroil does, so I used to use Kroil with my other cleaners, but don't have to do that anymore.
A badly leaded bore may take some brushing, but that true with any bore cleaner.
I compared it to Shooters choice and used 1/2 the amount of patches and only one patch with the Gunzilla, it cleaned better and far faster than the SC.
You can get it through Top duck Products, Cheaper Than Dirt or www.savagegunsmithing.com.
I don't sell the stuff, don't make a dime, so I'm not trying to get you to try it for any profit, I just think it's the best cleaner I've ever used and wanted to pass it along to all of you.
It is a CLP, so it's a lubricant also, pretty good, but I've seen better lubes, it's primary use is cleaning. If you leave it in the bore for 72 hours, it somehow attaches and makes clean up even easier, that works. Besides being a fantastic cleaner, it does not hurt the metal or finish on the rifle, it also has very little smell, something the wife likes, me I don't care, I think hoppee's smells like aftershave lotion, but that's just me.
I love the non toxic part, I've handled too many toxic products in my life, don't need to use one more. Just try one bottle, you won't use anything else, I just bought a 16 OZ bottle because I use so much of it. I shoot a lot, retired, not a lot of other things to do and I love to shoot. The easier the after shooting cleaning, the better.
Everyone who has tried it has been amazed and has continued to use it.
They also make a non toxic copper cleaner without ammonia, that I have not tried, but hear it works pretty good also.
My best, John K
