If you had a few mauser actions....

I like this type of stock on a Mauser sporting rifle.

The picture is not my rifle, but I have a military Mauser sporter with a stock of this style, with a schnabel tip. It has an 8mm military barrel that has been set back and rechambered in 8mm-'06, double set triggers, and open sights. Never drilled for scope mounts. I had wanted one exactly like it for a long time, when I stumbled across an internet "Wanted" ad with someone offering it for a truck gun. The OP declined, so I got it. It was a working man's custom rifle, but that's ok with me.

And here I thought a 700 was an ‘Ol school custom’.... just assumed the Mauser was considered ancient history by now.
I had the honor of hunting with Chik Donnelly
and his cronies.
3 mauser actions in deer camp.
AAA walnut, fancy hand tooled metal.
Two of them were 257 roberts.
I felt outta place with my BDL

257AI kinda catches my fancy. I really dont need another rifle... I need revolvers lol, but I wouldnt mind building one to have one. I like the pics yall have posted, they look nice.

Is it just me or can others not get past the fact that military Mausers should be in pretty wood stocks, with beautiful blued receivers, and some kind of equally beautiful half octagon half round barrel, with safari sights? I can’t see a long range or tactical old school Mauser action.

It's not just you. Part of me wanted to mention that Hogue makes a perfectly functional synthetic stock with a full-length bedding block for a very good price, but I JUST COULDN'T DO IT.

I could show you an abomination of an FN single shot. Dark grey Cerakote and a tactical bolt knob. It's a 6mm Creedmoor.

Can you buy a barrel like that? Or doea a smith have to mill in the octagon shapes and turn the barrel down? This was my thinking, but havent got that far.

Somebody should be ashamed for doing that to a mauser.:(:)

7X57 with irons...... and cast bullets of course.Run'm up to about 2400fps and then start practicing.

8X57 next.

Then if they still are taking up bench space, maybe something smaller? 6mm Remington.

30 Ardvark , 219 wasp , 6-06 Ackley , 35 Remington, depends on action and use . Almost anything 6.5 jap , creedmore, Lapua , magnum, swede, 6 mm br, Rem, etc the list goes on .
45 LC, 45 acp , 357 , mag , Max and 38 special.

Yeah it's a diamond in the rough. One day the action will get a butterknife bolt handle, reblue, and be the start of a beautiful 8x68. The rifle had been marked down a lot. I got it for only $50 more than I paid for a bare FN single shot action.

What cartridge is that chambered for and what stock profile ? I've got lots of barrels and stocks . I'm always looking for heavy target stocks.

I'd shoot it before you start , you will probably be surprised.
I've got a Mauser that'll keep them in the teens at 100 . Hart barrel old Canjar trigger and a 36x scope .
