I'd do a 257 Ackley, blued metal, AA walnut.
And some nice engraving on action,I'd do a 257 Ackley, blued metal, AA walnut.
Ol school custom
I had the honor of hunting with Chik DonnellyAnd here I thought a 700 was an ‘Ol school custom’.... just assumed the Mauser was considered ancient history by now.
Is it just me or can others not get past the fact that military Mausers should be in pretty wood stocks, with beautiful blued receivers, and some kind of equally beautiful half octagon half round barrel, with safari sights? I can’t see a long range or tactical old school Mauser action.

It's not just you. Part of me wanted to mention that Hogue makes a perfectly functional synthetic stock with a full-length bedding block for a very good price, but I JUST COULDN'T DO IT.
I could show you an abomination of an FN single shot. Dark grey Cerakote and a tactical bolt knob. It's a 6mm Creedmoor.
8mm-'06.
Somebody should be ashamed for doing that to a mauser.![]()
What cartridge is that chambered for and what stock profile ? I've got lots of barrels and stocks . I'm always looking for heavy target stocks.Yeah it's a diamond in the rough. One day the action will get a butterknife bolt handle, reblue, and be the start of a beautiful 8x68. The rifle had been marked down a lot. I got it for only $50 more than I paid for a bare FN single shot action.
