If you had a few mauser actions....

What caliber would you build?
What kinda stock would you use?

Need some ideas, I may be given a few action... i would put 3k into each.. so new barrel, 300 or less on a stock... etc.. cheaper good shooters is what id be after...

Which action? small ring? large ring? I really makes a difference. I want to build a Tweede but I am too late and all the Swedish barrels are gone. If you spend 3K on a Mauser action do it like Butch's guns, but he has way more than that in his.

There is nothing wrong with a nice mauser action. If your building a nice hunting rifle at normal ranges. 257 Rob, 7x57, 6.5x55, 35 Whelen are 4 classic calibers that come to mind. As far as stocks go a nice burled black walnut would be nice. I can make you one if you like.

We will see, I donno what kind of mauser actions it is yet... just figured they would make a good action for something thats not an everyday shooter for me or an odd ball

7X57, .257 Roberts, or a .35 Whelen. Keep it classic, no Weatherby type stocks, thumbholes, laminates or maple. I built a 7X57 on a Spanish Mauser decades ago, with an exhibition-grade myrtle stock with steel buttplate and skeleton gripcap, Sako scope mounts, flush mount swivels. Pretty rifle; but didn't shoot very well. Hope the burglars shot themselves in the foot with it.

I built a 6.5-.284 on a good solid Mauser 98 and really like it. I got a little carried away with the barrel and now it's a bit heavy to do a lot of walking but it's a real shooter. Keep in mind Mauser's feed from the magazine as a controlled round feed unless the claw extractor has been reworked.

I know nothing about them except when cleaned up and rebuilt they shoot good

Paper weight ;):D

Not a bad idea.
