I do not want to be harsh, but if a deal seems too good to be true, it is probably a SCAM.

Example, today member geralton4, who is now banned (with info forwarded for possible CRIMINAL investigation), listed a Nightforce 15-55x52mm scope for sale for $1400.00, with new-in-box photos.

The same scope, new, is $2400.00:




But at least three people (maybe more) responded to the seller (by post or PM) asking to buy.

I did background searching on the geralton4 account, found many security red flags. I then locked the thread, deleted a second FS thread, created an investigation file, and banned the member. I then took the time to notify those three members to stay away.

Folks, I am already working 3300+ hours a year. I do not have the time to send multiple emails/PMs regarding a single transaction.

I want to thank member paperpuncher for flagging this transaction. But guys, you have to look out for yourself. I've spend over 45 minutes on this matter already.

Think i saw that this morning. someone bought it maybe 1/2 an hour after it was listed.

Things change with time. I've learned the hard way. ( but not too costly)
My criteria for buying now is if the seller is not gold or silver contributor I pass.
I'm not contributing to provide someone access to free advertising
Some may say that's not fair. Really? Not fair to who?
Have I missed some good deals because of my own rules? I'm sure I have.
Is my method foolproof? Of course not.
Then again looking both ways before crossing the street is no guarantee of being safe but it sure improves the odds.
