Idea/suggestion for site

Forum Boss, 2 years on old classifieds should be a plenty. The market is changing fast.

My Search button is broke, hard to find anything, if it works at all.

What does everyone think of the forum automatically deleting all posts over a certain age? For example, anything over two years old. It would free up resources. Many posts are repeats anyway. People don't research past posts. When I tried researching past posts I found it unsuccessful. Just a thought.
I don't feel like you. I do agree many are to lazy to research but I do it all the time. I would hate that to cut off all but 2 years. 10 years sounds better. I would like to see under every ones name their primary shooting discipline or interest. Some suggestions ;as: Hunting, Recre actional, Plinking, Long range br, Short range br, Xcourss, PRS, Steel, 3 gun and so on. Would give you an idea when answering a question or gettin an answer where the other person is comong from.

We are planning to delete old classifieds, in stages. There is some small risk of corruption of the database.

Some people want to look at older ads to see comparative prices but I think 3-4 years back would be good enough.

Re past general content posts -- NO. There are many, many good older threads that are still valid.

If you are having trouble searching, use the Advanced search function and you can be more specific and also set time limits.
Here here!! The old threads are a wealth of knowledge!! I peruse the archives all the time!

I ghosted this site for a number of years simply because of the number of times when searching for information, links to the site popped up and very often articles in the bulletin.

The influence of the discussions here really does reach much farther than the membership and is probably one of the best recruitment tools for the forum.

Reading 2 years of posts is a fairly complete education.
Some questions come up 90 day repeat but the gold knowlege is only once in 5 or even more rare.
Delete the old stuff?
Some "fallen" calibers are hard to get opinions on and reloading data may be sortabtanium at best
My inner packrat says Keep it all!
243wssm waiting for my retirement.

I find myself reading several year old threads pretty frequently. Sometimes I come across them from doing a search on the site, sometimes from google searches, and other times from the related thread section. Those old threads have answered many questions for me and prevented me from creating many new threads. They are very useful for me.

What's cool in a weird trippy kind of way is Google a topic and a Accurate shooter link pops up. As your reading along you see yourself in a thread discussing whatever you were questioning or answering.

I see no problem with removing old "for sale" posts, especially as product values, change with the passing of time. Now those threats involving information are a different matter. Many of these threads contain helpful hints and can solve a lot problems for our members.

The Boss will know what is good for all and act accordingly.

Amazingly how true your statement is. Probably one of the
most entrenched gun forums on the planet. I'd say, let be......

I’m usually not in a hurry and I like the ability to post an item for sale at a price that I think is fair and just wait for the right buyer. If you are not in a hurry and your price is reasonable, it will sell eventually. I have sold several items that I had listed 6 months to a year earlier. When the buyer asked if I still had the item, I would have to go hunt for it because I couldn’t remember.
