IDEA FOR SHOOTING BENCH

Portable miter saw stand is a very interesting idea. I would like to see photos of how the top is configured and how one sits at it for shooting.
I have made 2 tops, the first had a cutout. I immediately knew it would not work for me. My last is a 1.5 inch butcher block counter top. Sit behind, with room for arms/elbows to rest. As much room as is needed.

It is no engineering marvel but....The single 3/4 top seems like it will be plenty stable--legs fold up and you have a built in hand truck to move it around
I just guessed on the cut out so will see how that works but overall I am well pleased
The back room of most pawn shops is full of saws and stands--they sell the saws and wind up with extra stands cheap

Do you use all 4 of those QD clamps on the top??? I use only 2 and seems stable enough for me, JMO.

I use a 4 legged shower stool for a seat which you can barely see behind the table.
May have been you that posted about the shower stool a year or so ago. Turned a light n in my old gray head. Dug one out of the "may be useful someday" storage area and it works great, each leg being individually adjustable adapts it to most terrain.

Thanks hpshooter--great idea on the stool
I used the two QR brackets that my table came with--wish it had another but I just drilled through the top to tube below on the tail end of the table and used a spacer between the top and frame--worked great

That bench that Dave made looks like the bench that Hitachi sent me for my 12 inch slide saw. I couldn't make a shooting bench out of my saw table too many bad memories of being chained up to that thing on a beautiful day listening to some "housewife" lecture me on why her shack wasn't on the cover of Architectural Digest, and how unfair life has been to her.

Glad it has been useful to you Don. I built three at that time and one became mine, I took it to shoot at the sheriff's range before the new FWC range opened. Sat next to some kid and he says "Is that the best piece of plywood you could find for the top on that bench? 'Yea it was a brand new piece when i built the bench>' I look this kid up and down and tell him most likely before you were born.

It been good Mark. It's going out Prarie Dog shooting this year in September. I use it at the house doing some 100 yard sight in stuff. It will last the rest of my life.

Not to high jack but...

On a side note Mark....my 2 friends that I have had since 1 month after I moved up here in Oct '08.....one is named Mark and the other is Jim. How ironic is that? We all plus Mark's son Steven will shoot pdogs together. It's a yearly thing.
