IBS 1000 YD competators PLEASE READ !!!!

I don't understand any reason to ever say 1 range 1 club. What is the point of this? As a outsider i would say if a club wants to shoot let them who cares where they do it as long as people are shooting.

Chad

The entire Va. club feels the same. There was a proposal saying that and it was shot down in voting. We had this put up for vote to save our club. It makes no since. Who cares if multiple clubs uses the same range, The more matches the merrier.

I also agree the more matches the better. Under the current rules I don't think it is fair for any range to be able to issue SOY points for more than 10 matches unless all can. I personally don't care about the points they mean nothing to me I think I proved that when I turned in close to 40 in 16.
You have stated you don't care you just want to shoot. I doubt anyone would care if you hold your club matches at HJ and award no SOY points. I believe that would satisfy everyone and end this controversy.

Hello Long Range Shooters,

There is an important ballot item for IBS 1000 yard Benchrest this year. Here is what will appear on the ballot that you should have just received from IBS in the mail:

LR3: “One Club/One Range with Exceptions” in 1000 yard competition, 1000 yard Ranges and Clubs

Ranges are only permitted to hold IBS sanctioned matches for one IBS Club for its 1000 yard matches, noting that:
  • The Virginia 1000 Yard Benchrest Club is grandfathered and is not subject to this rule.
  • By action of the Long Range Committee, and with agreement by the Executive Board, this one range/one club rule may be waived in order to allow more than one club to use the same range if there is a reasonable expectation that it will lead to growth of the 1000 yard discipline. However, the second club at the range must be a distinct club with distinct officers running its own matches, not a clone of the other club.
  • The Long Range Committee is required, to the best of its ability, to establish a 1000 yard Shooter of the Year points system that minimizes geographical advantage. (EBoard comment: this last bullet is a recommendation and not subject to a rules amendment)
The key issue is that there are hardly any privately owned 1000 yard ranges out there that are suitable or available for IBS competitions, and most military ranges severely restrict use of their ranges by civilians. The lack of ranges to hold IBS Matches is the key thing limiting the expansion of our discipline.

So with this severe limitation on the number of 1000 yard ranges, why would we want to restrict the number of 1000 yard matches at a range? Of course, each club holding matches needs to be a distinct club as noted in the Ballot Item.

There has been an ongoing effort by a few people within IBS to not allow the Virginia 1000 Yard Benchrest Club to continue to hold IBS matches at the Harry Jones Memorial Range. For many years we have been unable to find another suitable 1000 yard range to hold VA 1000 matches. So not allowing VA 1000 to hold its matches at the Harry Jones Range is the same thing as killing off the VA 1000 yard club.

This ballot item, once passed, will stop this effort by a few to get rid of VA 1000.

I strongly urge you to vote "YES" to this ballot item.

Best Regards,
Jeff Green
President, Virginia 1000 Yard Benchrest Club

One club / one range needs to stand for every range with no exception or the ability for multiple clubs can shoot at the same range needs to stand. In the past when a select group was able to capitalize without substantial travel it was not even questioned now that it is done elsewhere it becomes and issue. Equalize the rules one way of the other is what is fair to all period.

Well; I for one liked it when Cool Acres and North Florida shared the same range. It made my 700 mile one way trip worth attending. I'll bet a lot of other shooters liked it also, but won't say anything. And I think Cool Acres is one of the most improved ranges in the IBS. A top notch place to shoot.

I liked it.
We drove from WI.
Shooting more matches per trip is great.
We also shot WV and VA at Harry Jones.
More shooting = More Fun.

Both locations have something in common, great people!

There are great people and ranges throughout this sport! That is something that the outsiders reading all of this bickering hopefully understand. I have made some of the best friends of my life in the short time I have been shooting. Not just regional either, from Montana to Florida and everywhere in between. At the end of the day we all have to remember we do this for FUN, it’s a hobby and we should all enjoy doing it. We expect a ton out of these little guns and put so much time, effort and money into the sport that it borders on insanity. I have personally met most of the people that have commented on this post and even the ones of you that are shitheads, really are good people. Hell I am already having withdrawals and it’s only been a month since we had a match. I know I can’t be the only SOB that feels this way.

See you in Florida!

I plan to shoot some 1k matches again this year.
I think the more matches the better, increase my chances to get to other clubs.

As far as SOY,
first 10 matches for the shooter towards soy not the club. If thats a logistic nightmare then the 10 per club rule seems like the next equitable decision.

The only bad part about only 10 matches counting is the fact that more than 10 encourages shooters to travel to more than one range. Some of the ranges with low attendance would suffer. The whole idea of more than 10 is to have more shooters travel to ranges and have better turn outs and bigger matches. The piggybacking at HJ keeps most of there shooters from having to travel to a neighboring range, spending money and supporting other ranges in the IBS.

First of all I don't have a dog in this fight nor do I shoot 1000 yard. It seems to me that most of this thread is about HJ/VA shoots and SOY points. Couldn't they have the shooters at the first match at the HJrange of the year designate what club's match they wish to accrue SOY points from.Either from HJ matches or from VA matches held at HJ range. Seems to me that would keep shooters from double dipping as a lot of folks in this thread are saying. Shooters would be able to shoot both club's matches but only get points from one. As I said earlier I don't have a dog in this fight, just an opinion from reading this thread.

Adding my two cents to this debate, First anyone can shoot as many matches as they want. Second only the top 18 count toward the SOY points. So whats the problem? Those that choice to travel, spend the money, time and all that goes with chasing SOY can and will. I say more power to them, glad they are able to and they deserve what they reap from their efforts. Just because someone travels, shoots more matches, spends the time and money enjoying the sport of shooting DOES not ensure them winning SOY. My hat is off to them.
I don't see this helping anyone, just causing divide among us. Shoot where and when you can, do the best you can and enjoy the sport, everything else will work it's self out, including the points.

It is hard, maybe impossible, to measure tone on the internet. The person reading something has as much to do with how they interpret what they are reading as the person that posted it. Sometimes in a thread like this people that know each other might be talking back and forth, and it may be in a way that they both get but others don't. What some view as an argument might really be a discussion. Some of the stuff on this thread does lean toward arguing and petty comments. A lot of it could be more civil. See, that was my interpretation. That said, it is the nature of discussing things that people are passionate about. Subjects like this are hard to discuss on the internet as they really need more context than is usually given in a short post, and if you write a long post like this one, a lot of people aren't going to read it.

That said, things like this almost have to be discussed on the internet don't they? And in this case on this or maybe one other forum? This ballot effects people all across the country. How else to overcome the geography and communicate about or discuss this? Phone? Mail? Drive to a central meeting location? Nope. This is it. Go read some E Target threads and you can say you would never want to shoot F Class. This is the proper forum for this stuff. I don't mean internet forum. I mean forum.

There are people posting that don't appear to have a grasp of the subject matter, but that is part of being on a forum. I mean internet forum in this instance.
