Just curious, what kind of money are we talking for SOY? 5k?10k? Sponsorships? Free barrels, scopes actions, reloading supplies, equipment?
I think you confused what you win with what it costs to win

I don't understand any reason to ever say 1 range 1 club. What is the point of this? As a outsider i would say if a club wants to shoot let them who cares where they do it as long as people are shooting.

I also agree the more matches the better. Under the current rules I don't think it is fair for any range to be able to issue SOY points for more than 10 matches unless all can. I personally don't care about the points they mean nothing to me I think I proved that when I turned in close to 40 in 16.The entire Va. club feels the same. There was a proposal saying that and it was shot down in voting. We had this put up for vote to save our club. It makes no since. Who cares if multiple clubs uses the same range, The more matches the merrier.
Hello Long Range Shooters,
There is an important ballot item for IBS 1000 yard Benchrest this year. Here is what will appear on the ballot that you should have just received from IBS in the mail:
LR3: “One Club/One Range with Exceptions” in 1000 yard competition, 1000 yard Ranges and Clubs
Ranges are only permitted to hold IBS sanctioned matches for one IBS Club for its 1000 yard matches, noting that:
The key issue is that there are hardly any privately owned 1000 yard ranges out there that are suitable or available for IBS competitions, and most military ranges severely restrict use of their ranges by civilians. The lack of ranges to hold IBS Matches is the key thing limiting the expansion of our discipline.
- The Virginia 1000 Yard Benchrest Club is grandfathered and is not subject to this rule.
- By action of the Long Range Committee, and with agreement by the Executive Board, this one range/one club rule may be waived in order to allow more than one club to use the same range if there is a reasonable expectation that it will lead to growth of the 1000 yard discipline. However, the second club at the range must be a distinct club with distinct officers running its own matches, not a clone of the other club.
- The Long Range Committee is required, to the best of its ability, to establish a 1000 yard Shooter of the Year points system that minimizes geographical advantage. (EBoard comment: this last bullet is a recommendation and not subject to a rules amendment)
So with this severe limitation on the number of 1000 yard ranges, why would we want to restrict the number of 1000 yard matches at a range? Of course, each club holding matches needs to be a distinct club as noted in the Ballot Item.
There has been an ongoing effort by a few people within IBS to not allow the Virginia 1000 Yard Benchrest Club to continue to hold IBS matches at the Harry Jones Memorial Range. For many years we have been unable to find another suitable 1000 yard range to hold VA 1000 matches. So not allowing VA 1000 to hold its matches at the Harry Jones Range is the same thing as killing off the VA 1000 yard club.
This ballot item, once passed, will stop this effort by a few to get rid of VA 1000.
I strongly urge you to vote "YES" to this ballot item.
Best Regards,
Jeff Green
President, Virginia 1000 Yard Benchrest Club
Well; I for one liked it when Cool Acres and North Florida shared the same range. It made my 700 mile one way trip worth attending. I'll bet a lot of other shooters liked it also, but won't say anything. And I think Cool Acres is one of the most improved ranges in the IBS. A top notch place to shoot.I also agree the more matches the better. You have stated you don't care you just want to shoot. I doubt anyone would care if you hold your club matches at HJ and award no SOY points. I believe that would satisfy everyone and end this controversy.

I liked it.
We drove from WI.
Shooting more matches per trip is great.
We also shot WV and VA at Harry Jones.
More shooting = More Fun.
Both locations have something in common, great people!
See you in Florida! There are great people and ranges throughout this sport! That is something that the outsiders reading all of this bickering hopefully understand. I have made some of the best friends of my life in the short time I have been shooting. Not just regional either, from Montana to Florida and everywhere in between. At the end of the day we all have to remember we do this for FUN, it’s a hobby and we should all enjoy doing it. We expect a ton out of these little guns and put so much time, effort and money into the sport that it borders on insanity. I have personally met most of the people that have commented on this post and even the ones of you that are shitheads, really are good people. Hell I am already having withdrawals and it’s only been a month since we had a match. I know I can’t be the only SOB that feels this way.
This kind of discussion is the reason I won’t shoot paperSee you in Florida!
There really that many rules. This whole thread is about shooter of the year points. Most shooters dont care about the points and dont shoot enough matches. You need some rules to keep it fair and competitive. MattThis kind of discussion is the reason I won’t shoot paper
We don’t need this many rules to have fun
When you take FUN out is a sport it goin to die

First of all I don't have a dog in this fight nor do I shoot 1000 yard.
