I Tried 5 Budget Lights Under $60 – Better Than Expected

Hey everyone,

Came across something recently that I thought was worth sharing. I’ve been testing out some budget-friendly weapon lights from a company called Defentac, and honestly, I was surprised at what you can get for the price. These run anywhere from about $15 to $60, which is a fraction of what most of us are used to when we think SureFire, Streamlight, or Olight.

I picked up five different models — pistol lights, IR/visible combos, and even a laser/light setup. My first thought was, “No way these hold up at that price.” But after putting them on the bench and running through them, they actually did better than expected for the cost. Obviously, they’re not going to replace duty-grade gear, but for budget builds, range toys, or someone just starting out, I can definitely see the appeal.

I made a quick video overview of the five models I tested, with more detail on brightness, mounts, and how they stack up in terms of value.

Not saying these are the new standard, but for under $60 they might be worth a look if you’re curious. Figured I’d share since most of us are always on the hunt for affordable gear that doesn’t break the bank.

What do you think — would you trust a $20 light on a setup, or stick strictly to the big names?

I wouldn’t put a $20 light on anything that I’d call a “weapon”. Streamlight is the cheapest I’d go for something that a life may rely on.
Totally respect that perspective — when someone’s life might depend on gear, buy the proven stuff. My personal split is: for a light-only role (illumination), I’m fine with budget options so long as they have a solid aluminum body and good impact/resistance specs. If the device needs to hold zero (laser or aiming module) or you expect hard use, invest in a higher-end brand. Different roles, different risk tolerances.
