Question about pistols and lights

Of course not. PMs and email are for my friends. I don't know you. You can talk to me publicly, or just have a seat and skip it. Your choice.

A light on a weapon is a good thing in a combat zone. It's a bad thing at home. That's what I teach, that's what I do. Skill and technique trump equipment every time.

So every person in a combat zone is a bad guy and is worthy of flooding with light (you're comfortable illuminating your buddies while pointing a loaded weapon at them, and comfortable with them illuminating you?), whereas everybody in my home in the middle of the night is friendly and deserves a polite introduction before pulling a weapon?

So, you'll be happy carrying a Davis or Jennings 25 ACP with FMJ, because you have the "skill and technique" to trump the equipment?

Learn to use a light that isn't mounted on the weapon.

Don't shoot a target you can't see. Don't shoot a target that isn't illuminated.

Don't point a weapon at a cop, your wife or your child.

Therefore, don't mount a light on a weapon.

Now I'm confused.... you say don't shoot a target that's not illuminated, but to not have a weapon-mounted light. Then you say a light is a good thing in a combat zone, yet most times you see a light being used in a combat zone, it is weapon mounted.

Guys that live by cute little sound bites are always entertaining.

Heck, why not gear up with night vision, armor, cyulume sticks and flashbangs. Toss a CS cannister; oh wait, I'm home asleep with my wife and grand kids!

Simple answer is: You pays your money and makes your choices.

As a LEO with 20 years experience and 15 more to go I have gone from learning to fire with a 3 cell mag lite, to a stream light stinger, to a sure fire weapon mounted lite. Surprisingly since I am a detective, I have gone back to the stinger and or other small bright led flashlight with a rear mounted pressure switch.
There is nothing wrong with the use of a weapon mounted lite, but ensure that your lite and ammo will not cause malfunctions as this happened with our glock 22's with certain duty ammo.
Other considerations are that a weapon mounted lite tends to not get used much, therefore when you go to use it it may very well be dead. Also do not use it as a general use light, I have personally seen officers remove their guns from their holster to remove a light for flashlight use in a non violent situation without even realizing what they are doing. It just looks really bad, and in the wrong situation could cause problems.
All the concerns about giving away your position are valid and proper light discipline and tactics should be used no matter what type of light is used.
