I REMEMBER WHEN

I remember when driving a pickup truck meant you were a hick, a hillbilly. A "dumb farmer."

Today, you drive around the new developments where the homes cost half a million and there's a pickup truck in every driveway. A 60k dollar pick up truck...to haul golf clubs with.

My girlfriend used to remember where she left the remote to the tv. Lost it last night and is still trying to find it this morning!:(
She found it when she sat down on the couch and the channel changed, was under a heating pad next to her!;)

Yes ,you got Friday off then skipped Monday to get back out of the mountains, then had my cousin make a note that I was sick Monday then she would sign my MOM's name to it.
LOL........oh yeah been there done that. Walked into the local dinner after the morning hunt and at the first seat at the counter was the principle , my friends still jab me about that......LOL

I remember the first time I saw a wild deer. I was horseback riding on the trails, I was 12 years old or so. It was really a rare event because deer were almost non existent around here. Now some 50 years later we have deer everywhere, you see them every day. In people's yards eating their landscaping!

I remember when a nearby farmer was having lambs killed by wild animals and DNR came out and concluded it was coyotes and everyone said "Those guys are idiots, everybody knows there's no coyotes around here!" Now some 30 years later we have coyotes everywhere.

I remember pheasants, which we never see now. I remember big coveys of bobwhite quail, which we never see now. I remember hearing bobwhites in the evenings.

I remember, when I was about 14-15 years old, camping at the edge of the woods in an old canvas pup tent. My head at the open end with the flaps tied back. Waking up at about 6 am, hearing some noise around me. A bunch of bobwhites were foraging around on the ground all around me. I remained motionless. They were within inches, literally, and I watched them for 15 minutes or so before they moved on.

Oh yeah...I remember when we had no turkeys, then turkeys all over the place, and now we're almost back to no turkeys.

I remember seemingly endless numbers of woodchucks. Now, they are few and far between.

I think coyotes are the main cause in both cases.

I remember watching a coyote stalk and catch a woodchuck about 40 yards away from my window.
