I think the 4350 would be better in the 225 or 250 grain loads. But I won't be finding out real soon! Seems PT&G prefers not to spend much on shipping? I just finally got a new delivery date from USPS on the reamer & stock package. Shipped the 3rd, and in Ohio this morning finally, supposed to be here by 9pm tomorrow?wildcatter,
Finally made it the range last week with the 200s & N160. I stopped at 63.5gr... because that's where it stopped as there's no data anywhere & I started low. Case fill was good, with no compression, with a note there's room to go higher if desired, easy extraction, & rounded primer edges.
Velocity was rather disappointing... 61gr gave 2579fps to start & the 63.5gr load tried was only 2719fps. Groups were not too bad, but... not sure if there's enough room in the case to get up to H4350s speeds. I loaded these middle of Jan. so dont remember exactly how full the brass was. No powder rattle when shaking, so... it's a good somewhat reduced load anyway. I may continue with N160 to see where the ceiling really is, or may try N555 next to get a feel for it in this cartridge.
Your rifle should be ready soon?
This is the slowest moving shipment I have ever had, But it still beat the 90 day wait I was quoted when I made my order for everything. I can't wait to see this thing together, and more so how it shoots. I just hope I ain't disappointed going with the 338 over the 35 Whelen? Time will tell.
Bad thing is for the next 4 weeks I'm keyed more into Steelhead till the middle or end of April. The tribs off Erie are heating up, and I don't want to miss the action. So everything going bang is on the back burner for now. Flies are tied and my flyrods are ready. I'm sure when I get tiered of playing in the rivers, the rifle will be waiting to play with me.
If you find anything real sweet with accuracy and velocity,,, please let me know.
