I ran out

I made a cotton barrel wrap from old tee shirts, double them up sew in a tube shape slide over and wet down, run a split the length of the forearm, Velcro strap at chamber to keep in place, make it a bit loose to suck heat off the barrel.
I feel my moly coating is a big factor along with keeping the wrap wet

This system works great. After emailing him last year, I made a couple for my rifles. I actually spray the sock down just before I start shooting. Then periodically I'll spray it some more.

I heard 748 also is better on barrels.
I have an ongoing experiment to see how many rounds of one particular powder (W748) and one moly bullet (40-grain lead-free Ballistic Tip) can go in a particular barrel. I'm using a 26" Krieger 1-9". so far, 4,640 rounds. Barrel looks new compared to those photos & still shoots 3/8" MOA. Test taking forever as I tend to use heavier (50-55 gr.) bullets shot from other uppers. Started out at 1/4" MOA. Maybe I'll switch to 50 grain bullets at around 7,000 rounds. I get barrel pretty warm sometimes but not scorching. I have stuffed gauze under my handguard a few times and watered down to keep things cool but only a few times when that was the only rifle I took with me.

Yup h335 now, I used w748 for some 30odd years and went to h335 a short time back as its used in 5 other calibers I reload, so for me its a one powder do all pretty much these days

Looks like great fun!
A friend had a similar experience with a 22-250 barrel. It was an inherited work rifle and he shot it more than 5000 rds and he was still headshooting deer (culling) at 300 with it. He didn't dare clean it as he figured that would be game over.

Of ammo shooting pdogs today, never had that happen. Shot an even 450 rounds from 650 am to 215 pm when I ran out. My fault as I normally pack 600 rounds in my bag. My McGowan 14 tw, ss 24" barrel has 14365 rounds through it as of today and it just keeps on going. I shoot nothing but moly coated bullets through it just for pdogs, coated in my tumbler. Yup it still prints sub moa at 100 yds.

Running out of ammo - tough problem! amazing barrel life. My rem 5R 223 likes H335 also. I hope to be getting out end of the month to sling lead at Pdogs. Know it will be HOT. Thanks for the post. looks like fun.
