I need less eye relief

I have an old Ruger mkii 300wm with a boyd stock and recoil pad. I just mounted an old NIB leupold 6x fixed power. I have the scope slid back in the stock rings as far as it will go. I am only shooting reduced power reloads, so scope bite is not ever going to be a problem.
My problem is that i have to strain far forward to not get any dark spots in my view, am I doing something wrong? Is there a fix?
First time I have had this kind of problem.
You need MORE eye relief . Sorry I didn't read all the other stuff , but less eye relief is 1" more is 3" if your scope is nearest your eye and you still need to creep up on it you need MORE . Or new offset rings

Wow. none this has any thing to do with the problem. eye relief on the scope is what is, measure from the trigger to the back of the butt plate. There is the problem if it is over 13.5", all 6 power leupold scopes are over 3.5 " eye relief. I had a ruger 77 in 308 and I had a 3 power Leupold on it and I still cut the stock off to a 13" pull to see a full scope. The cheapest fix is a saw...... jim

It just dawned on me, duh. You're right. The scope can't go back any further, regardless. The bases are stuck where they are and can't be moved. How about a siamese base that fits the receiver and has a standard Weaver or Pic rail on top. The scope could then be moved rearward, albeit it would be a bit higher.

You should be able to see the problem an after market stock. They are made to cut to the proper length, before you put a pad on. Take the pad off and I bet you can see out of the scope, then put your hunting coat on and see where you are. then wrap it in masking tape where you are going to cut and cut it off and refit the pad. Better yet take it to someone that does that kind of work..... jim

You are treating a symptom rather than curing the illness, I never had an issue with a 6 power Leupold, it is not the issue ... it is the stock... jim
A stock isn't cut to fit eye relief it cut for FIT to our individual sizes . Arm length , shoulder size , finger length etc . NOT EYE RELIEF

Eye relief is set on the scope nothing you can do.... but if you can't get close enough a saw will cure that problem. All this bs. about changing scopes isn't the problem, none of it will change eye relief, if a give scope has 3.5 of eye relief and it is pulled back all the way and you can't see it is the stock length....... a lot of people don't know how to ask the proper question... jim

So altering the stock is your solution! No that's why they make offset RINGS !
Good lord , cut the stock ? To what fit when your shooting off the bench , how about when your standing , cut it again .
Offset rings , check them out , it'll save a lot of stock cutting ! I've never heard of such a thing , ever .
I agree a scopes eye relief is set but rings solve that . Or more slots milled into your bases , but rings have been made with single or double offset Just for this problem .

Done with this silly ' cut the stock ' Yes Ruger even makes extension rings and you can get up to 1" either way

You said after market stock they are made long, if your length of pull is over 13.5 I would cut it. I'm short and I require a 13" pull and if I were to shoot off hand competition I would be down to 12.5. I it were me I would cut it to fit and put a quality recoil pad on it like a kickeez for that caliber.... jim

I agree with Johara1. I am short also and have my stocks cut to 12.5. Amazing how many over 6 footers pick my rifles up and say, Wow I can see through your scope so easy. When you give then the reason they most always say, I would never do that. LMAO at them every time especially those who have already told me stories of the bucks that got away because they could not get them in the scope. This has happened too many times to count over the years.

Maybe to the inexperienced it may seem silly, but 13.5 is a standard, and you would be able to see out of the scope and more than likely you would need to move it forward. unless you are short.... what ever trips your trigger..... put the extension rings on and the front one will be over the port.... jim

Jim , I could see your point IF he was complaining about reaching the stock , he's not . Boyd's stocks can be ordered to fit by 1/2" intervals. I'm sure having your front ring angled back has been done thousands of times , every factory gun has areas where we have to make allowances for . He could just as easily change the stock or the scope or the rings , especially when he sees how much the rings are . When shooting from the bench your position, posture and requirements are different than when prone or standing . A happy medium needs to be found . Even with the fairly high cost of the rings , it's my opinion that it would be a better and less costly alternative than having the stock cut and sanding the butt pad professionally .
We all have different ways of skinning the cat . Out of the thousands , didn't really count but 35 plus yrs of dealing with scope mounting problems , I've never thought of suggesting that the stock should be cut . I have suggested it many hundreds of times ( again never counted ) when the client couldn't have his trigger finger joint at the proper position on the trigger when shouldered . It was very common when we ( shop ) were cutting down 22 rf rifles for Boy Scouts and other youth groups ( shows how long ago , when 22rfs were used )
I personally think having the WINDAGE adjustment on the port side is more of a hindrance than a high angled front ring , guess that's why I set mine up with the windage now doing elevation and the elevation , now on the left side doing windage . Again showing my age , my scopes still have parallax on the objective , and no illuminated scopes .
To each his own ....

yep, but for me cutting the stock is free, and so is cutting down the pad. Ruger rings are going to be a lot of work lapping and maybe more labor involved than cutting it it off.... have fun...... jim
