I shave mine to - dont care what anybody thinks and easy to take care of and i like that avoid part best.
My neighbor started his girls shooting the 6.5 CM at the age of 6.
By the age of 7, one has and loves her 7mm Rem Mag, another shooting a 308. The third doesn't hunt, but will shoot her Dad's 30-06 most often.
I know my wife enjoys shooting my 7mm Rem Mag. She can't stand just "punching holes in paper". She prefers reactionary targets. When she shoots steel she wants to hear it and see the plate move.

My wife does my hair.
She simply sits me in a chair, puts the shortest spacer on the barber clippers and keeps going around and over my head until it all looks the same.
She also hugs real close while she is doing it.
As for cartridge development, just read the saga of the 243 Winchester vs the 6mm Remington and the 264 Winchester Magnum vs the 7mm Remington Magnum. That’s a lot more interesting than the cookie cutter concoctions invented now.
