I got sidetracked-

I second that A+ weather like that id stay home. It'll all be worth it when you lay grandpa down for the dirt nap! Keep the great pictures up

Hillbilly

A nice day for a change, it warmed up a bit and the snow settled a lot, and by mid afternoon visibility into the woods was back to normal, but the deer didn't move until mid afternoon, but no boys in the bunch.
One more day to go-----
This one was bedded under that blowdown beside her, and came out dry as a bone... I was there at 8:30 and she came out of it at 2:40.
When I first saw it coming out, I was hoping it was a big fat bear..

:D Preacher, this is the first thread I look at each day. I think photography may be your true calling. Thanks for the view of your world! George

+1 too that ! I think most of are waiting on pins an needles for a good look at Granpa up close and a smiling face, ;D

It is to bad that all threads were not all like this one, I as well await for each days posting's :)
Wayne.

Great pictures preacher!! Its gonna be a shame when hunting season ends down your way youll have to keep going anyways just to keep us entertained with all the pictures!! ;D

Preacher if you look at the 12/10/ posting where it is snowing like a whiteout, look in the upper left corner where the tree is and it looks like grampa jumping and running away. I know it is a tree with snow on it but it sure looks like a deer.

Jon- dont make me start wondering about you ;D

It was so foggy this morning I couldn't see 25 yards away until a little after noon when it started to clear. 40 degrees, and a light drizzly rain that should have made a good day for the deer to be doing what they do, but didn't... Not a thing moved until 3 PM when 4 doe came running up from the road, south of the condo, spooked. They went out in my woods North of the condo and bedded down till 4:30 and went out and fed in the field and then went back down across the road again after dark... Seems Grandpa's luck held out for him this year..
I hope he's doing well and makes it through the winter in fine shape....
If I catch him on any of the game cameras I'll be sure to post them...
If I was 38 years younger and MS free, Grandpa and I would have met by now ;D
I had the safety off on that pesky Gray 2 year old when she stopped to catch up on some grooming 68 yards out in the woods, but thought of all the work involved afterwords, and stayed away from the trigger...

That was an exciting experience. You are quite talented.

Think you shudda shot that PIA. Like a little red in the snow to cover any yellow.

Preacher,

I am honestly sad that hunting season is over for you. I will miss the pictures and updates, as it was like I got to be part of your hunting trip everyday when you posted. I hope you do the same thing next year, and also hope that grandpa feeds you next winter as well.

Thanks again for an awesome thread.

Kenny

If you do end up in the woods hunting anything else, a few pics and an update would be appreciated! :)

Hey Bruce,
I thought of you when I saw this picture!! :D
Have a Merry Christmas my friend.
Barry

Preacher do you guys have a late season you can hunt to keep the thread alive?!! Happy Holidays to you and your family

Hillbilly

No late season and too short of season to begin with. The DEC up here is like the gestapo. They wont even have a doe season in early january like in a lot of states. We have approx 3.6 weeks and thats it. 3 weekends to do it with a gun.The DEC is always bitchin about the size of the herd, now we have less hunters and a smaller take. This year about every 5th person got denied for doe permits in their favorite area.Makes alot of sense.Everything the DEC takes years to enact, like the new rifle(instead of shotguns)season,it was promised 2 years ago and only took 8 years to say,we are looking at it.If you ever want to hunt new york, dont bother,it isnt worth it.The DEC says the herd is huge yet every year I see less and less deer since they introduced coyotes and bears. They want to balance nature and it has blown up in there face as the coyotes by my area are decimating the wildlife. On the other hand where preacher lives it is a whole different ballgame. He lives where there are actually deer populations with actual herds as he lives near the pennsylvania line.I wish I could retire in a similar area to be able to hunt the big boys.Preacher you have it made.
