I got a Springfield Krag today. Never imagined I would have one.

I did some plumbing work in their house a few months ago. I do service work for a construction plumbing company. Warranty work only. The guy noticed the ammo can bolted to the bumper of my work van. It holds PVC glue and primer, to keep fumes out of the van. We started talking and I told him I like old military rifles. He had my work number and called me yesterday to tell me about the rifle that his wife’s grandfather had. I said I couldn’t pay what it’s worth, and I wouldn’t want to insult him what I could pay. (Business has slowed down, and I’m paying for a new hvac system and dental work) He asked for a number, then called me today to tell me his wife said OK. I’m just stunned at the circumstances and their generosity. Great folks.

Congrats on your acquisition!

I've been pining over one for years and came into a deal over the summer. Mine is getting some stock refinishing and repairs at the moment.

I hate to tell you but the rabbit hole will get a little deeper trying to find ammo or brass!

It is a very good rifle, back in the late 60's I had a couple of them, of course they were only $50 rifles then. Very good on bears.

Congrats on a fine old rifle! The design of the snap open magazine is a marvel of engineering.

I used to have a Springfield carbine version years ago. It was re-barreled by somebody with an
03' Springfield barrel at some point in it's life. Very pleasant shooting gun.
A friend owned a Norwegian Krag, all original, not messed with. I was jealous of that one!

I plow snow for a friend where no money exchanges hands. Every now & then he'll bring over a rifle & several years back a Springfield Krag showed up. I use it at our club's Turkey shoots each fall & its a dream to shoot but it ain't cheap. Think I paid $50 ish for a box this fall. Wish I was a little better w/ open sights as I'd take it hunting.
Think Snow!!!

One of my favorite rifles. Many years ago my girlfriends father took me hunting and pulled out his Sporterized Krag. Fell in love with that gun and that side loading box magazine. That started the many that have come and gone through my collection. Still have 2 in the safe. Enjoy!!

I rode a neighboring farmer's tractor starting at age 15. Ninety-cents an hour. After a week, he asked where I learned to run a straight furrow or disc. I told him, I live on the farm next door to his place. He bumped me all the way to a buck an hour on the spot. His Grandfather had served in the Spanish-American War, and kept his Krag. It had a Fecker 8X scope on it that I bought on the installment plan for $8 a week. It came with a Lyman 310 Tong Tool w/dies, a mould, and a 4lb lead pot I melted and cast WW on our Coleman stove. Kake Kutter and Javelina lube, and all Crows and Groundhogs were in mortal danger out to 200+/- yards that summer. My folks got tired of driving me the 3 miles to his place after a month or so. I saved my $$$, and bought a like new 1957 Ford Fairlane 500 2-door hardtop, black over white two tone. Come school that fall (1965), and I was every HS girl's dream. I had wheels, and $60 a week income. I won a Gold Medal that winter in the Ladies Dream Olympics!
I owed it all to that Krag...

Put a WTB add in the classifieds for brass. They are a fine cast bullet shooter as well.

I picked one up about 10 years ago.... I had an entire USGI collection going ... from an 1863 fwd thru the M-1. The Krag has a dark bore, but the cartouching is primo.

Enjoy your collection add !
