Fellas i sold my coyote rifle last winter to fund a benchgun but now its time to start thinking about the up and coming coyote season. My corn has big old Ears on it already and it wont be long and we will be taking it out. Maybe i will get to fool a few of the young coyotes this year? The last coupe seasons were late harvest and didnt get much of a chance to call and young dogs. Anyway i found an old rem 700 in 222 for 275 bucks shipped. I cant pass it up. The barrel is pitted, but the fella claims it will still shoot .5 to .75 " groups. Here is what i have in mind for this rifle. I can get shilen chrome moly varmint barrel for about 150 bucks plus another 150 for a chamber job. i can get a nice used HS varmint stock for about 200. I dont think i will bother squaring the action but i may as it would only be another 150 bucks. I just dont know yet what i will do there. after all its just a coyote rifle, but i may. Here is were im not real sure what to do. the bolt face is going to be 223 and i am really thinking about chambering the rifle back to a triple duce? I dont have any experience with the 222 but is it big enough to kill coyotes out to 3-400 yards? Or should i go with something like a 223 ackley? I was really wanting a 308 bolt but this is a pretty good deal and i am going to have to make this work. Also how hard is it to open up a bolt face? will i have to go with a sako type extractor if i do this? Thanks fellas! Lee
