I'm thinking i want Mitutoyo calipers but I'm reading fakes are in Amazon's pile.
Anybody have a trustworthy place to get em at a decent price ?

No but I purchased a pair of Anytime calipers about a year ago or more on Amazon. I'm very pleased with them. They hold zero and have retained their accuracy. Of course, they are made in China but so far, they have proven to be of adequate quality. The best part is that they were not expensive. So, the downside risk is low.

I liked them so much I bought a second pair.

+1 for msc. If you're in the midwest you're likely to have them in a few days. Mine are 30+ years old and for 10 plus years i used them every day. Now I just use them in the gun room. I have knock off digital spi set work with the battery dead whenever I need them.

i bought the coolant proof digital ones from MSC, after dial calipers all my life i havent looked back. they were well worth it. —msc does have sales on them at times .

Just did the math and all of mine are 30+ years old. Got 4, 6, 8 and 12 inch Mitutoyos for $10 an inch back then.

I was worried about the same thing when I got mine. This is where I got mine (and mine are legit, just have to be careful exactly what Amazon actually sends you):

That what i was looking at. The description says comes with the lr44 batteries which is not the correct batteries says all the real vrs knockoffs. That's what has me worried.

MSC coolent proof seems to catch my eye ....

Hmmm??? When I read the description in several places at that link (like "What's in the Box) it say SR44 battery. So, what you say is very puzzling.

I see that but the description on down is this .

Well . . . as I said, I had concerns too when I ordered mine. When I got them I carefully inspected them looking for the signs of them being fake, but everything checked out (including having the correct battery). Even then, I called Mitutoyo and got their assurance that they are genuine. Like everything I get from Amazon, because I was burned once, I check things out as soon as I get them and if they don't measure up, I immediately send the item(s) back for a refund. I've had to do that twice that I can remember in the last 5 yrs. or so.

It's good to be skeptical. ;) :)

Back in the day, when I made my living with precision tools, my first choice was Starrett. Purchased locally. Bought my only digital caliper in the mid 90's and still have it and use it. A Mitutoyo. Outside of yearly battery swaps it has served me well. Purchased it from Enco, but believe they no longer exist. Even at my advanced age, I attempt to buy the best quality I can afford. Have not darkened the door of a Habor Freight more than once. A dealer/vendor with a good reputation has value. Aren't we cautioned about scammers every day?
