I Don't Get It

Some good times had with the M-60. Offhand and from the hip is just fun. Of course I didn't pay for the ammo or the barrel.

I'm able to shoot at a somewhat private range. About once a month my son and I will take our MkIII's out and run a couple hundred rounds through each shooting at paper. Of those 200 rounds we usually each fire one magazine rapidly at about 15-20 yards to see how close of a pattern we can keep. Kinda fun. Cheap entertainment. Great father/son time spent!

Then again, you'd probably also get charge with littering the highways. :p

The GAU-8A 30mm A-10 cannon is caseless, no?

Prolly need a bigger truck, tho. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwi-7dyl3JrVAhUrsFQKHa1SBgIQtwIIIjAA&url=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cDoRmT0iRic&usg=AFQjCNETfdQq9TQgCtYTbuylzMeLKzylfA Oh well, sacrifices must be made. The problem with picking up brass after the spray-n-pray crowd is a lot of them are shooting Berdan steel cases now.

Or people who drive in the left hand lane, purposefully holding up the traffic flow because they have decided their speed is fast enough for everyone behind them....or some other such menace to civilization. o_O
Hey that's my lane too. If my 10 over speed isn't fast enough for you, then you can move to the other lane. It not my fault that you didn't get out of bed early enough to get to work on time!

I think many of these people are just following what they see on tv. They don't really know the capabilities of a high power rifle. I have on several occasions converted these blasters into real shooters. Many of them think 100 yards is it. I've let they lay down behind my rifle and hit targets at 1000. Often within a month they're asking me for help with there new bolt gun. They are the future leaders at the range and the voting booth. DON'T SHUN THEM, MOLD THEM. Mike A

Hey....no....stay over there in that lane. The rest of us need someone to make us into better people.

At least they are providing a ready source of once fired cases for those who know what to do with them!
At our county range, shooters are forbidden from picking up spent cases off the deck, unless it's obvious they are from your own gun(s). The range master has full discretion.

Yes sir, it's your lane too, as long as you're passing someone. Then, get your ass over! I ain't late to work, I'm on my way to shoot something.
Remember; if we don't keep this thread shooting related, the admins will kill it quickern a doctor quits a dead guy.

I'm a RO at our local range, young man (recently in Marine Corps) bring out 3 AR pistols, goes though a couple hundred rounds, dads ar fails to extract, help them out showing dad what broke in his. Up side, now have son, who was RSO in Marines will now be joining us as a range officer here!

Not in the same vein, but in one of the clubs I belong, it schedules a full auto day (every Wednesday afternoon) and watch the guys wheel a hand cart full of ammo cans with .45 ACP for the Thompsons and 5.56 for the M16s. They lay out a sheet to catch the brass and blast away! They do shoot at targets and are safe but the noise kind of wears on me and no, they keep the brass. :(

Getting back to the mag dumpers, I love 'em! 215 rds. of Lake City in the bucket last time and over 500 rds. a couple other times. And don't get your shorts all twisted at just the black gun crowd. The pistol range has their share of shoot 'em ups too. The Glock fanboys especially seem to be all about firepower.

Having said all that, they are in the very least, going to be aware of and support the 2nd Amendment.

Edit: A side benefit, JOBS! In America!
So I say, let 'em have at it!

So that's where all "my" brass is going!:( 4-5 years ago, I'd get a couple 5 gallon buckets full from that range, every time I went.

I still pick it up. I had one guy at the other end of he range tell the rso it was my brass.

I am in PA and I have always been a precision rifle shooter/Hunter/Bench Rest Shooter and while I think AR's a neat, cool looking ect I have never owned one. Never seen the need for one..But with the way things have been going I am now packing a pistol and have a AR..I have had two different AR in the last year learning about them and they are quite simple and very neat how you can reconfigure them easily. As I like precision rifles I just put a Barrel on mine and it is shooting quite well and I am looking forward to shooting some G-Hogs tomorrow with mine..I have also been one to not be to happy with the endless blaster's at the range now I just smile as I know they are part of the team. I feel get practice and be ready because we may need to use them soon.Know what and how it shoots.Know what to load for it and how it shoots and stockpile what you can. Because I feel it is coming.. Just saying

Seems your thoughts are widespread

I share your exact sentiments! However, there is a silver lining in every cloud.. "Blasting" as I call it, can be "fun" for the neophyte! They gain a love for weaponry and ergo want to KEEP their guns!

This is exactly right. My neighbor came to appreciate firearms in his early 40's. He's now in his mid 50's and hasn't looked back. I've watched him go through all the normal progressions. Initially, he was happy as can be just going to the range and blasting his AR until all the ammo was gone. Accuracy didn't matter. It was just fun to hear the gun go off. The next phase was handguns. The bigger the better. Maybe he'd hit what he was aiming at and maybe he wouldn't. It didn't matter. It was just fun to shoot.

Now he is into factory bolt guns and trying to shoot small groups. He has two RPR's that he shoots almost exclusively now. He's obsessed with reloading and the quest to shoot smaller so the AR's don't come out as much as they used to. It took him a long time to get here, but now he is at the point where we have great conversations about accuracy and reloading. His next logical progression (whether he knows it or not) is a custom bolt gun at which point the factory guns will seldom see the light of day. That's where he is headed. He may not see it yet, but it's perfectly clear to me!

No one takes the same path, but in one way or the other that's how we all got here.
