how to set parallax

on my sightron 8-32 scope I get the parallax adjusted so there is no cross hair shift vertically but it still has horizontal cross hair shift
when I move my head up and down the cross hairs stay on target but when I move me head slightly left to right the cross hairs move off target.
what am I doing wrong ?

Your scope likely has a reticle focus ring on the ocular lens – the one that you put your eye to. Adjust that ring as you would a binocular or camera focus until your reticle is sharp and clear to your eye.
Adjust that first while looking at a blank backgound.
Then adjust your paralax to sharpen your focus at distance...
then your done.

+1 on @Sandstorm recommendation to ensure reticle focus is crisp. If that doesn’t correct, contact Sightron… there may be imperfections in the lens. Is this a new scope?

When adjusting the rear eye piece, don't stare thru the scope. You take a quick glance at reticle. If you look constantly, your brain will fool you into thinking it is correct.

When adjusting the ocular to sharpen the reticle, there is usually a range in the rotation where the reticle looks sharp. The position of the ocular affects the ability to dial out parallax, and those should be alternately to find tune the ability to dial out parallax. Boyd Allen talked me through this process a number of years ago.

This scope is about a year old, but hasn't been used much. I recently put in on a 22 for 100 yd bench rest matches at our club.

Rebs, good info above. Google this and you will get very detailed way to set the parallax. I googled it and it helped me. I believe in the daily bulletin there have been articles on it too. I have noticed that as I get older my eyes are changing and not for the better. Good Luck on getting it set. It’s irritating if not set correctly.

What I have found works best for me … follow above advice to get ocular adjusted to give the sharpest reticle.
Then confirm the ocular focus adjustment( reticle image sharpness) at near the shortest distance your parallax adjustment allows. Adjust as needed to have the reticle crisp and clearly in focus and the image in focus at short distance at first glance through the scope. Since a couple of feet up close require more parallax adjustment than a couple of hundred yards near infinity end, I find this the best way to make sure I can get the target image and the reticle image focused in the same plane.

Now move parallax out to target distance and check the image shift with your head movement.
