How to Get Permanently Banned from This Forum

Forum Boss

Administrator
A member (since 2018) recently posted a Tikka rifle for sale.

Contrary to Forum Rules, he said payment was to be made via PayPal, using a "discrete" (his word) Friends and Family (F&F) payment without fees.

I took the time to advise the fellow of PayPal Rules:

1. PayPal may NEVER EVER be used for sale of ANY firearms or actions (or ammo).

2. PayPal F&F may NEVER EVER be used for ANY sale of ANY goods or services. No exceptions.

He responded that he was just reposting an ad from another Forum.

Then in an email after I took the time to explain PayPal policies he said he was "well versed in PayPal policies" and was ignoring PayPal rules "understand[ing] the risk involved".

So this person knew the PayPal rules, and deliberately violated them.

Learning that, I immediately banned his account permanently, and I have blocked the IP addresses he uses.

He then attacked me for requiring compliance with PayPal rules.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

People -- here is why you should follow PayPal rules.

If you sell a firearm via PayPal payment your PayPal account may be locked and the funds from the transaction confiscated. Got that? You can lose ALL the money.

If you use F&F for ANY sale of any goods or services, you risk having your PayPal account closed and the money confiscated. F&F is never ever to be used for ANY SALE of ANY item. No exceptions.

Many other electronic payment systems do NOT allow firearm sales. You need to check.
PayPal/Zelle/Venmo/ApplePay/GooglePay all prohibit firearms sales.

One alternative that some people use is GunTab.com. This takes credit card payment and acts as an escrow until the firearm is received by the purchasers FFL.

Its been said over and over and over, I get you may not know if your a new member and are getting the feel of things. Arguing the point when the forum clearly has stated it’s position on the matter isn’t the brightest move if you intend be here long.

Perhaps some people forget that someone owns and operates this forum, and it isn’t a public park. It is more akin to the front room of the Forum Boss’s house and we are all graciously invited to come in and participate in the discussion. It is still his house and his rules and good manners dictate we respect and abide by his wishes while we are here.

Yup. That's exactly it and the same goes for other sites. . . be it Face, X (twitter), Snapchat, etc. They all have rules and the right to make and enforce the rules for their sites.

I couldn't help but laugh when I read this.
I don't understood why anyone would violate a FORUM rule that is one of only a few prominent and specific rules. But, to admit knowing it's breaking rules AND challenge the BOSS doesn't seem like a real good idea.

Your thoughts were the first ones that came to my mind as well. Clearly this member did not pick his battle very wisely.

People -- this isn't just a policy that I impose for the Forum by personal preference.

The Forum rules reflect PayPal policy. Repeat -- no gun sales are allowed by PayPal.

As I have explained, if you breach PayPal's sale rules you risk Losing ALL your money from the sale and having PayPal lock your PayPal account.

The main reason for our Forum rule is to protect our members from losing their money. Got it?

Well in today’s environmental STOP signs are considered by many drivers as a suggestion, posted speed limits on limited access highways are 10-20mph lower than the active traffic speed, right turn exits from the 3rd lane not uncommon etc.
Glad this forum has a moderator who has stated rules AND enforces them.

Not only that, but Boss is trying to help us stay out of trouble. I much appreciate his insight on this and many other issues. It makes lots of sense to listen when he speaks!

I thought about it in the days when PayPal first came out and decided that I would not (and I do not) use electronic pay services. If someone requires an electronic service, I don't buy what they are serving. I have used an escrow service and it was a very nice experience - both the buyer and myself were protected.

Don’t know the reason but my cousin created an account on here and got blocked instantly for spam ?

Forum Boss: I personally background check every new signup. There is a database which lists email addresses, account names, and IP addresses which have been flagged as used by scammers or spammers. In the case of your cousin I suspect he was connecting with a disfavored IP or not listing a verifiable name and city.

I spend over 500 hours a year on background checks and we pay for access to multiple databases. 5-10% of all registrations are rejected for security reasons.
