How much will this de-value a Sako A1 22 ppc?

So I took my Sako 22 PPCs to the range today only to find out that a Harris bi-pod will not work with the factory sling stud in the forend of the Sako stock. Yep, believe it or not they are .025 - .030 bigger than all the other sling studs I own. The Harris bipod will go over the stud but the stud is too wide to let the bipod tighten down on the stock. The problem is that the Sako studs are threaded into the wood stock. What I would like to do is put a machine thread escutcheon on the inside of the forend on both guns and use a standard machine thread sling stud. This would make the sling stud easily removable if I want to shoot off a rest and the standard stud would fit the bipods. BUT would changing the sling stud de-value the gun?

i filed mine....who cares if you like it and want to shoot it? buy another stud

i was bad and filed it on the gun as i didn't care. maybe remove it first ;)

i buy guns to use not save for resale...but hey?

My A111 already had same thread and the standard escutcheon in it so I just changed the pull stud.
I'd listen to Dusty

What's your honey-load, if you don't mind sharing? I've got one as well, SS AI BR, that's missing both studs, previous owner was letting it slide in bags apparently...probably.

Hey Bob, you could buy a new stud that just screws into the wood. I buy them all the time for my stocks. They come out for rest shooting and back in for bipod shooting multiple times. Just don’t strip the wood.;)

Is this Sako worth a lot of money, or are you hoping it will be a collector item in the future? If so, then don't shoot it. It's worth more if you don't use it at all. Clean it and keep it oiled, and store it carefully. I'd recommend a bore sock.

Personally, I'd thread out the stud, throw it in my bin of spares and thread in one that works, but none of my guns are collectible and originality means zip to me.

I thought of that but the stud looks bigger too. I'm not sure because I don't have one to compare it to, but I'm going to pick one up and see. I'm a little worried about stripping the wood too like you so said.

I don't think it's worth a lot of money but they are a little desirable. When the day comes for me to sell it, I just think I'll have more options if I keep it original.

I don't load for them...they shoot 52 gr factory Sako ammo into tiny groups.

...which I don’t think have been produced in years. So save that brass for sure.

I have a couple of 6ppc A1s and pondered the same question. I’ve taken out my sling studs more or less permanently. If you’re trying to keep them in good condition, what do you need them for? Seems to me that most activities using sling studs are high risk for incidental damage.

I was planning to use one of them as a walking varmint rifle. Maybe put a bipod and or a sling on it and shoot a few ground hogs on a local farm out to 300 yds. Most of the shooting would be off a bipod unless I am at the range and use a rest. I would definitely save the brass.

The Sako in a PPC is pretty scarce. I only ever saw one. Matt
