How much for a savage rechamber?

Any idea what a smith charges to rechamber a new barrel?
I have a new savage 223 barrel that id rather rechamber to to either a smaller cartridge with a tighter neck and throat but probably suck with 223ai.

My guess is $75 to $150. Usually when you re-chamber you want to go deep enough to cut a new neck, which means you need some more threads cut out the barrel. I have seen Ackleys made from the parent that did not cut a new throat. I am not going to spend $150 to ever re-chamber a factory barrel when I can get a new Shilen pre-fit in the chamber, twist, length, neck, and throating I want for around $300. My advice is to shoot that factory tube and enjoy it. If it is a new barrel and you can sell it as a new take-off and use the funds towards a custom tube. A new SS varmint 223 barrel should bring around $150. A sporter about $75. Blue sporter is get up around $60. Just my two cents, Tim

You can probably rechamber it if it hasn't been shot much and there is enough of a straight area at the chamber end to cut off an inch or two and rethread it, but other than that you are better off with a good pre-fit from one of the better barrel makers. It's going to run $150 to $200 from a good smith, maybe a bit less. That being said, you can buy a Pac-Nor pre-fit for around $400 for a super-match stainless barrel that will likely be more accurate, and less if you want a regular match or chrome-moly.

I have a super accurate Pac-Nor that I couldn't be happier with. Bought it as a pre-fit and man does it shoot. I am almost positive you will never find a factory barrel that is as consistently accurate as a good custom barrel. Sell the factory barrel and get what you want or shoot it as-is. I have a .243 barrel I was going to make into a .243AI, and after speaking with a knowledgeable smith from the forum, decided to shoot it as-is per his recommendation. It just isn't worth the hassle of rechambering.

I am looking at re-chambering an old 6BR to 243wssm. I got a quote from sin arms for about $100. It was higher than normal because he would have to rent the 243 wssm reamer. He has a lot of reamer in stock, so it might be cheaper.
