How difficult would it be to rechamber a savage barrel from standard to ackley improved with a finish reamer?

easy if you have the equipment(lathe, reamer, head space gauges). I do it all the time.

Its not a reamer and extension ,twist twist and your done . You do need a lathe .

I was wondering if it was possible to hand turn in the reamer, as in a short chambered barrel? I have heard of that being done.

you can but where are you going to find a short chambered Savage barrel? anyone who is cutting a chamber for a Savage barrel is going to cut it all the way.

I was thinking maybe taking a standard .243 to an improved version. As long as all the dimensions were longer/deeper it should work. Correct?

negative, you need to set the barrel back. I usually set a barrel back .100" or so to clean up the chamber and throat. you can get a barrel rechambered for like $80, you can barely rent a reamer for that.
