How many of us (Americans) reload?

I have always owned guns--mostly inherited pieces and carry hand gun or two--always loved to shoot but when grandparents were dead and gone so was the farm--and an easy place to go--but during the pandemic I discovered a local range very close to me--we started shooting rim fire and I was brought back to the joy of marksmanship--we decided to go from North Carolina and do a prairie dog trip--that meant we needed a bolt gun--so next thing you know I am shooting a 223 Savage and loving it! Then I stumbled into a PILE of reloading equipment from older guy that had quit--so now I am a reloading junkie--
I am late to the joy of reloading--never had a chance to stock up when things were available--so...$90 per 1K on primers? Is the only price I have ever seen--The conclusion is yep I did not buy 65 Mustangs when they were $800 and I did not get powder and primers when they were cheap But...I have discovered a great new hobby and I will buy the supplies I need and just keep on smiling--
I am having a ball chasing those one hole groups and improving my skills so the prices are what they are--I intend to keep on loading and shooting until it ain't fun anymore.
FWIW I have found lots of equipment available as older folks just up and quit so I am paying out the yang for supplies but got top quality tools cheaper than dirt--It is a wash for me
Yep! Pretty much the same for me. Got into this waaaay more than I thought I ever would but I have no regrets. Though I do think that smokin' crack and chasing hookers would be cheaper(you'd have to ask Hunter about that though! o_O ) but not nearly as much fun!!

I had a 61 Corvette and joined a local club on OKC. Many of them had two and NEVER drove them during the week. Maybe twice a month on Sunday and some had one they never drove just trailering it to car shows.
I had a high school buddy that bought a 69 Z28 Camaro in the mid 80's and he only drove it around his cul-de-sac. Convinced him to not only really drive but to let me drive it since I rebuilt the motor for him. I took it out and let it rip!!! He totally freaked out and just parked in the drive way but he was impressed with how it performed. One day we were playing basket ball and one of the guys missed a rebound and the ball smacked the hood and dented it. Me and that guy were no longer welcome at his place. No big deal, he wasn't that good a friend to begin with!!:D
Can't stand people who have nice stuff and never use it, not even in the slightest.
I have a 1966 Browning pump action 22LR I got from my dad after he passed and it's in pristine condition. I shoot it about every other time I go to the range! Awesome rifle!
I also have 2 old Chevy pick ups that I quasi restored. One is a 72 350 4 speed and the other is a 73 350 4 speed. I drive the 73 more than the 72 but both get driven.

Just did a quick search and it looks like the stocks of some of the companies is all over the place!
Thought it would be better than what I found.:(
I have owned OLN corp. ( Olin / Winchester ) Stock, several Times over the Years and drew, several Dividends BUT, after seeing, the product Quality going down a Bit, over the last several years, I Sold it ( got, NICE Capital Gains + Dividends ). Don't "track it" anymore, tho as I only own, good, Div paying, CEF/ ETF's, now.

@ Thor,.. You might be, a little LATE to the Party, as quite a few Components and Ammunition, are sitting on Shelves,.. AGAIN ( just at, Higher Prices ). Some Powders and almost all Primers, ARE still, TOUGH, tho !
You might look at, ATK stock, as I "Believe" that, they own, Federal and CCI,. but, am NOT, sure ?

Enough to make all but the largest of fire companies in my area very nervous if things started to blow.
I'd take my neighbors to my left and right and probably a good chunk of the guys house across the street if my powder were to go up! And that's just the powder! Primers? Fuggitaboutit!!!

I'll quote the late Brittney Murphy "I'll never tell".

There’s a member here that needs to sell all of his pride and joys at bargain basement prices….and is having major problems finding takers . Why?

most hand loaders and competetive shooters would have a genuine arsenal and immediately be red flagged by de gooberment.

we dont want them to know cause when they find out it wont be pretty.

His prices are give away but they are niche items that many people who are called shooters don’t know anything about. Also unless you reload you would never be able to shoot and even though you might have some reloading skills not nearly enough. How many shooters know even what your pride and joy, 6PPC is or 20Practical . The times where the old Winchesters ,Colts,S&W’s et Al are dwindling because they are not affordable to the vast majority nor can the place’s to use them be easily found ie. hunting or target ranges. We tend to live in urban areas where why we have firearms has drastically changed and in a time where “shooters “just, for the most part buy ammo to seldom shoot their pride and joy. EVERYTHING we have will be sold and the question will be who will buy these wonderful items and very possibly at bargain prices!? To a non- reloader?A non-hunter!? A non-competitor !?

In my neck of the woods the shelves occasionally get stocked but it's almost all gone in an hour or so.
As for the prices, they too are through the roof here when you can find what you're looking for. Almost all my shopping for gunpowder, primers, bullets and brass are through the net. If you're patient, great deals can be found, relatively speaking. When I started in this hobby I could buy a brick of primers for $21.00. Not anymore. Best I've been able to find is $75.00 but that included shipping and hazmat believe it or not.
I bought 10,000 LRP's, 10,000SRP's and 10,000 LPP's. Pretty much wiped me out but now I got plenty of powder, bullets, brass and primers to last me...a few months!!!:p

On a completely different note. Does anyone know of any place near Sandusky Ohio to shoot without having to become a member or have to run into some buttheaded RSO's? I have yet to meet a respectable, considerate RSO at any of the regular ranges I checked out. They seem to be on some kind of power trip and not so much concerned with safety but more on throwing their authority at folks.
Here in the Rocky Mountains I have several places that I can go to, usually requires 4WD, where if I had a tank and was able to get it to the range I could shoot that thing to my hearts content. A few years back a guy brought a bazooka and a flame thrower!!! I was too scared to go talk to him but was crazy fun to watch!!! By the way, bazookas make big bangs!!!

So I was thinkin', I'm relatively new to the hobby of target shooting and reloading. Many of the folks here have been through the "tough times" when it comes to the drama of finding supplies to keep reloading. I got started just before the SHTF this go around. Thankfully, on the advice of the guy who got me started in this, I was advised to buy in bulk everything I would need to keep shooting and I've shot A LOT and still shoot just not as much as I was. Most of that bulk is...not as bulky as I'd like.
So my question is how many folks here in the US own guns and how many of them actually do their own reloading?
I've done a Google search to my question as far as gun owners but it seems that you really can't get a true answer because supposedly there isn't registry of guns here (yeah, riiiight!!!) I'm primarily interested in the percentage of folks who do their own reloading. Any good guesses?
I shoot often at two different public ranges here in Arizona and what I observe each time I go out is a small percentage of shooters on the line using reloaded cartridges at either site; maybe 5% or less. And I think that percentage is skewed to the larger degree as it seems states where shooting and hunting is more prevalent, like Arizona, you'll see a higher percentage of reloaders.

A recent NW Times article reported that numbers recently released revealed annual domestic gun production increased from 3.9 million in the year 2000 to 11.3 million in 2020 (only a small percentage being exported). That's nearly 3x increase over that period. I would expect the percentage of reloaders for each million to remain close to the same, which suggests to me a substantial increase in them along with that gun production.

Given this increase in reloaders along with a company like Remington shutting down for a time, sanctions on Russian imports, problems with supply chains, fear of government putting limits on supplies, it's really not much of a surprise to me what we're seeing in the markets for reloading components.
