How I Tape off the recoil lug for bedding

One very key thing to point out when using Kiwi Neutral color shoe polish is that you need to actually “polish” it out just like you would on a boot. Apply it on the surface, let sit for about 5 minutes, then come back with a clean rag and polish all the surfaces to a shine. I’ll usually do two layers just to make sure I didn’t miss any spots because if a metal surface already has a polished finish, you can’t even see the kiwi once you polish it out.

If you just apply the kiwi without polishing, it won’t release as easy and will leave a thicker uneven layer between the metal and the epoxy.

When Kiwi is applied properly, no other form of release agent will give a thinner layer between the metal and the epoxy, break free from the bedding easier, or clean up as easy as Kiwi.

Believe it or not it is a good rust preventative for blued hunting rifles;)

A trick that a co worker told me about using tape to be removed. Had nothing to do with bedding. Put the tape on your jeans. Then remove it from the jeans. Then put it where you want it. The lint on your jeans will reduce the amount of force to remove it in half. Sounds crazy, but it does work. Not sure about the recoil lug, but thought I would mention it.

It's true, I do that except on carpet.
However, I want the tape firmly adhered to the lug and action. I'd much rather peel it of the action/lug than have to pick it out of the lug recess. That's why I use plenty of release agent on the tape after it is on the lug.
