How big a round will a pillar bedded Panda action take?

The Panda wont be the limiting factor, the stock will be. Most Br stocks are not designed to take heavy recoil. If its composite the fill material in that area is not normally designed to take a lot of recoil. If its wood the shape of the tang and grain layout would become important. They make a lapua bolt face Panda, the action is fine. But you may end up with a stock problem. Id just glue it and not worry.

It is a McMillan Tooley MBR stock. It is wide thru the tang to match the Panda back end. I am struggling to get my head wrapped around a glue in. I am sure it is more complicated than gooping it up with JB Weld.

Hello, Max from McMillan here.

Alex is correct, what it can withstand depends on what fill it was built with. Odds are it was made with our standard fill which will handle up to .300 win mag. The W/BY magnums, .375, .408, .338 lapua, 50 BMG's etc. would have to be in what we call our Magnum or Sniper fill.

For a 6.5-47 our lightest fill will handle that just fine. So, I'm not worried about the stock.

If it has no recoil lug, I vote glue it in. As the gentlemen have stated, pillars aren't really a factor for recoil, that's what the recoil lug is for.

Now I've confused myself. I stated it was pillar bedded just to differentiate from a glue in, not to imply the pillars would handle recoil. The tang of a regular Panda is a pretty good recoil lug to my (simple) way of thinking. Mebbe I should get myself more comfortable with a glue in.

Youll simplify your life and improve your scores with a glue in
