Their sizing die is basically a Lee copy.Seems Hornady takes the design of others and makes a few small changes and markets it.
Henderson trimmer, ARC cartridges are a couple that come to mind

You may not have heard, but, Doug Giraud died a few weeks ago. His son is supposed to be continuing the business but in all likelihood Doug's passing has caused some interruption in service.mine will be here today, I was going to buy a Giraud but, after 4 phone calls and no return call. no way. I looked at the Henderson and don't like the cutter head setup or the need to buy a different cutter head for every case or an extra belt?? I called Hornady and a live person picked up the phone and answered my questions, said call back if i needed any help. In my opinion, they are not that close in design. horizontal case trimmers using collets to hold the case have been around for a long time. just because they are both red doesn't make them the same. I am in the process of making 1000 20 vartargs and will be trimming in the next day or two, I will report on how much I like it or not then.
They need a bit of time because Doug Giraud died from a heart attack on 17 July 2025.I was going to buy a Giraud but, after 4 phone calls and no return call. no way.
That is sad news.Doug Giraud passed away a month or so ago and I am sure the family is trying to hammer out a path forward.
The background “Chatter” you are hearing is most likely CHINESE…The Hornady is a lot louder when trimming, sounds like chatter, in comparison to my Henderson.
RIP Mr Giraud…They need a bit of time because Doug Giraud died from a heart attack on 17 July 2025.
A micrometer stop would be nice. The bolt setup isn't bad. Once I have it set for a cartridge I leave it set and mark it for what it's for. Just change the bolt as needed and check cutting length to make sure it's still set. I have not had to readjust bolt length yet, lock nut holds adjustment well.Buying the extra heads saves a lot of time on setup when changing calibers. I like mine a lot too. I added a micrometer stop to it - something Hornady seems to have added. Henderson was going to add that to theirs when I last communicated with them, showing my setup. That was a while back - like a year?
I received my Hornady trimmer yesterday. Once I got it set up and familiarized myself with it, I really like it. It is quieter than the Henderson I used previously. It's quick to use and trims very accurately. I'm very happy I bought it.
Are you guys satisfied with the way it deburrs and chamfers too?I have done 1000 vartarg cases now and am glad I bought it. the cutters are so easy to adjust, so I don't see any reason to buy extra cutting heads. It's well built with a lot of solid aluminum and the direct drive motor is a plus.
I like that it is fast and the deburing and chamfers are consistent. Are you guys satisfied with the way it deburrs and chamfers
I like that it fast and the deburing and chamfers are consistent.
Thanks, I appreciate your time to tell us us about the new trimmer.Mine looks good. It may have a bit smaller chamfer than the Henderson, but it is totally adequate and uniform.
If you already had the Henderson trimmer why would you buy the Hornady?I received my Hornady trimmer yesterday. Once I got it set up and familiarized myself with it, I really like it. In the description it says 22 cal to 30 cal. How are you doing 20? I have over 1000 Vartarg to trim so I'm very interestedI have done 1000 vartarg cases now and am glad I bought it. the cutters are so easy to adjust, so I don't see any reason to buy extra cutting heads.
