Hornady EDL-X & Nosler Accubond LR feedback

Sometimes I've found that holding up isn't necessarily always the answer. We see what vmax and Ballistic tip bullets do to bigger varmints. Coyotes and big ground hogs etc. The bullet fragments internally but most often never exits but destroys organs and causes instant shock trauma and stops the animal instantly. This same effect occurs with the Amax, Berger's, etc in bigger game as well. I'm not crazy about some of the destruction that occurs internally either but the end result mostly and in my case so far every time is a recovered animal very quickly. Meaning within single digit yards of impact. I do like a bullet that stays together and they are ideal bullets when they can be surgically placed where they'll drop the game instantly. Shoulder placement either low or high. Lung shots cause runoffs most of the time and although that does kill the animal, many times they go 100+ yards and where recovery is very difficult. I'm a fan of match type bullets for game as well as bonded or partition style bullets. Depending on use, i use both bullets with reliable results. As wrote in other forum sets, many of my hunting friends are NOT fans of match bullets and adamantly against use of them. They firmly believe companies make bullets for specific use and only that use. I personally use a specific type rope for tying my boat to the dock but also use that same type rope to hang deer with. Guess I'm just different.

I shot an elk at 850 yards with a 330 Dakota and the 250 Elite Hunter and it took 4 shots to drop the big bull. Two of the shots penciled completely through and did not expand at all and the other two splashed on the backside ribcage after fragmenting on vitals. Possibly a blockage in the tip?? Checked all bullets in that lot and found no visible problem. I may switch to the 285 ELD-M but I have not decided. Its hard to switch bullets when it shoots in the 2's. After trimming meplats in some other guns performance has been good but not great. And what I mean by that it does not kill like a Nosler Partition but its not meant to. I have never had a game animal take a step after being hit by a partition but they were all under 500 yards and I'm sure that makes a difference. Its important to recognize what a bullet was designed to do and not be critical of what you want it to do. The ABLR design to me suggests that it may be very explosive at close range because of its long range design performance - 1300 fps. The ELD-X seems to be an ideal in between design. We shall see.

In my boys guns I load 105 AMAX - 243win and 162 AMAX - 7-08 and these are real performers, very violent. The only problem with the AMAX is close shots, too frangible. They are at their best at or below 2800 fps but perform well below 1500 fps IME.

Its hard going away from the Bergers because they just shoot so well. I am hoping the LRAB and or the ELD-X's perform as advertised. As a side note it seems popular on the internet forums to say that the LRAB are hard to tune but I found them very easy in 2 different guns. I don't think a bullet company like Nosler would put out a bullet that would not shoot. I even saw a post by Bryan Litz complementing the design. Class guy.

Wow. There you go. From one extreme to the other. In my daughter's 243, my sons 260 and my 6.5-284s, the Berger and Amax s perform well on Game. In my 284, the Berger's and Amaxs perform well also. Have not had any fast 30s to relate to for bullet performance. My 308 does well with Berger's on deer out to 600. Have no experience beyond that with 30cal Berger's at speeds faster than 2750-2800 muzzle speeds. Obviously not all impacts perform equally on Game no matter what bullet is used. I have heard of guys putting several rounds in an elk without any notice of a hit. In fact, one of those guys moved on to another animal and wound up with 2 animals down in the end.

Considering the 208 Amax for my 308 but reluctant because of the low velocities. Would like to see 2700 but not thinking I'd get those speeds. 185 Berger's are my best load for range and the 168s for all around hunting. I will give the LR AB an opportunity in my 7mms and 30s. I have some eldx bullets waiting to try on deer. Time will tell

The 155gr A-Max will shoot into very small groups from my custom .308. Shot my biggest whitetail square on in the chest from 200yds. He took one big leap and landed on his nose DRT.

Have to try the 168s. Winchester 168 bthp shot extremely well in my 308. Factory loaded ammo. Never loaded the 168 Amax.

Hello I am looking for some feed back on the Hornady EDL-X & Nosler Accubond LR. I'm gonna be shoot them.out of a 7/300wby and also 300 ultra mag.

Thanks Doug
as I am a berger fan I did try the nosler ablr in my 7mm and 300rum a they shot like *** you no what I mean. I have never been able to get accubonds to shoot worth a damn in any of my guns! I have tried the hornadys EDL-X it shot okay but nothing like the bergers. I took bergers to Africa and the outfitter didn't want me to shoot them as they were hollow points. he is now a berger believer as I got 6 large animals with 6 shots out of a 300rum. all of them were DIT (dead in tracks) with berger 210vld.

I am shooting the 140 ELD-M in a 260 AI and they are real accurate. About the same as the 140 Hybrids
Other bullet companys are trying so hard to keep up with berger bullets cause shoot lights out. They kill like no other bullet i have ever used and animals drop in there tracks no more to be said
