Sometimes I've found that holding up isn't necessarily always the answer. We see what vmax and Ballistic tip bullets do to bigger varmints. Coyotes and big ground hogs etc. The bullet fragments internally but most often never exits but destroys organs and causes instant shock trauma and stops the animal instantly. This same effect occurs with the Amax, Berger's, etc in bigger game as well. I'm not crazy about some of the destruction that occurs internally either but the end result mostly and in my case so far every time is a recovered animal very quickly. Meaning within single digit yards of impact. I do like a bullet that stays together and they are ideal bullets when they can be surgically placed where they'll drop the game instantly. Shoulder placement either low or high. Lung shots cause runoffs most of the time and although that does kill the animal, many times they go 100+ yards and where recovery is very difficult. I'm a fan of match type bullets for game as well as bonded or partition style bullets. Depending on use, i use both bullets with reliable results. As wrote in other forum sets, many of my hunting friends are NOT fans of match bullets and adamantly against use of them. They firmly believe companies make bullets for specific use and only that use. I personally use a specific type rope for tying my boat to the dock but also use that same type rope to hang deer with. Guess I'm just different.
