The money is also in elr shooting. Why is there no offering in 375 and 416? Their price point atleast makes since in the elr bullet category

Isn’t the direction in ELR towards solid/monolithic bullets?

Isn’t the direction in ELR towards solid/monolithic bullets?

The average shooter that wants to try ELR shooting does not want to pay 2 to $3 a bullet. So I would think there would be a place for these bullets, reasonably priced. I might try a box of the 230 grain 30 caliber bullets but I'm not going to hold my breath. I've never been a fan of hornady "match" bullets.

Solid bullets are not for everyone. I’d also say for a solid bullet to shoot very well that the closer the bullet is to actual bore and groove size will most likely help the solid bullets shoot better. With that being said you either have to get the bullets made to the barrel or the barrel made to the bullets. The only place that I know of doing that off hand is Warner Tool.

I’ll also throw in there that some of the designs of the solid bullets are not proper or maybe I should say balanced properly. Some of them think you can just spin the bullet faster and it will fix the bullet being a problem. Not always the case.

So bullets like these would be an option to ELR guys. My guess is being as they have had the alum. Tipped .50 cal bullet out for quite some time now. Probably around 15 years or even more and now with the new 6mm, 6.5mm and .30 cal bullets being offered I would wager that other calibers will be offered. It would just stand to reason.

Midway announced pre-orders this morning. And, yes, they are in the $.80 a piece range, beyond what many custom bullets are running. Unless these things steer themselves into the same hole, I can't see the value. Awaiting response from the market . . . should be interesting to watch.

I see that Midway has a price for them and taking back orders for them.. I think digging that deep in your pockets is a thing that will see if they survive and they make the bullets in the yellow box a better deal... Time will tell. later

how are aluminium tips going to react with steel targets? pit the target? Potential sparks / fire hazard?

1) I don't think Aluminum is "sparking"
2) I think they are inherently repellent, so, don't expect too many steel hits. ;-)

1) I don't think Aluminum is "sparking"
It's non-sparking but it will burn if it gets hot enough and it can't be put out with CO2, it produces it's own oxygen just like magnesium. Powdered aluminum mixed with the right
stuff is highly explosive.

If the G7 on the 230 is real, and if they will shoot they
Clearly not looking to attract f-class guys with those calibers and weights. A few 6mm guys might try but that's it IMO.

The open guys might find some love. That 230 would run in an open gun and if the BCs are correct it will shoot 10" inside of a 7mm 180 Hybrid in a 10MPH full value assuming 2800 to 2850 or so for both bullets.

That might be enough to drive some more shooters from the 7s to the 300WSM.

I know several guys who tried 230s in F-TR and all that I know have abandoned that.

It's just my opinion, and yes, everybody's got one, that this thing is dead coming out of the gate, The big cost in this is not the bullet making, that just about like any of the tipped bullets, it's the special packaging and individual bullet handing to get them in the package and boxed. I wouldn't think Hornady would make the large investment in the machinery necessary to do this with automation. It's the hype surrounding the one thru 100 placement in the individual little pockets with the supplied matching cover that goes into the awesome looking box. This is all a marketing ploy and will not stand on it's own two feet. There may be a small niche, and small it will be, and the test results will show that it is as wonderful as the Lone Ranger's silver bullet capable of magical accuracy but the real proof is yet to be determined and will probably not make you a one hole shooter.

Respectfully Submitted,
Riesel

Whaaa???? You mean I can't spend a pile of money on the best stuff known to mankind and not automatically be a champion? :( I'm crestfallen.:p

Lol. They aren't the same as silver tips at all! They aren't like any of the previous bullets, beyond being bullet shape and having aluminum tips.

Honestly, I'm disgusted by the prices we're seeing, but the BC improvement, if true, is notable. Honestly, these should be 35 cents each and they'd sell like hotcakes.
